Engagement season is in full swing and retailers are seeing new trends emerging around holiday engagement ring purchases. Last year, there was a rise in vintage estate rings and unique colored stones. This year the diamond is returning – and bigger than ever – and people are feeling more and more comfortable buying online. Gleem & Co., a luxury online jewelry consignment and curator, sees a 200-300% jump in sales during the holiday and proposal months. Gleem curates a custom collection for their clientele and has noticed a few new trends for one of life’s most important (and expensive) purchases:
- Diamonds are Forever: Solitaire diamonds are making a comeback, as colored center stones become less and less common
- Size Matters: Two carats is the new baseline, and people are willing to sacrifice clarity for size
- Gold over Platinum: As people wear and tear their rings more during their spin cycle, pilates class and everything else in life – white gold is coming back as a more durable alternative to platinum
- Make a Statement: Women want their engagement ring to be a statement piece – vintage and estate ring sales remain high
