Now playing: Daisies | Raye Robinson

Raye Robinson pictured with a Daisy in her mouth.

We are officially titling summer 2021 “we’re outside,” as we start to see the light at the end of tunnel, regarding the Coronavirus Pandemic. To get you ready for a great summer, here is Daisies by Raye Robinson who is a Los Angeles alternative pop artist. Raye Robinson is a bowl of sunshine and femininity with her new track. The song is also a reminiscent of Lily Allen meets Billie Eilish.

If you haven’t heard of Raye Robinson, she has garnered acclaim from the likes of Live Nation’s Ones to Watch and Earmilk.

Through honest songwriting and relatable themes, Raye Robinson creates a fresh and intoxicating sound, emitting an innocence and dreaminess that continues to whisk music lovers away to their own delight.

Having previously performed in bands, her time alone during the pandemic has allowed Robinson to dive into her music and self while discovering her love for taking creative control over her sound.

Produced by Rob Auerbach, out of his do-it-yourself (DIY) garage studio, Robinson’s upcoming music emits a spunky, fun, laidback and feel good vibe that is sure to become a summer favorite.

The debut single “Daisies” is the first track off of her upcoming EP entitled Crushes & Love Songs. Unsurprisingly the song is a matter of the heart, narrating her unfortunate and confusing love situation.

The songwriter confides, “I ended things with a guy that I was seeing because I was afraid to get into something serious. After we stopped seeing each other, though, I really missed the connection we had, and I couldn’t stop wondering ‘Does he miss me too? Does he hate me now? Did I make the right decision?’”

Robinson explains this sparked her thinking about the “he loves me, he loves me not,” picking petals from flowers trope. She shares “I immediately loved using the word ‘daisies’ in the hook, and from there the rest of the song came together pretty quickly!”

“Daisies” starts off with an intimate, minimalistic feel laced in tender piano hits, the track bursts to life with a bass-infused piano, soft vocals and glassy, light production. The song carries a diverse use of keys creating a soundscape of heavy and light with an almost old-school Lily Allen-esque bounce to the rhythm. The track is beaming in sunshine and femininity creating warmth to the track which radiates through its simplicity.

New Music: 40 Days by Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez

Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez

New York Jazz R&B artist Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez has a new single out. It’s entitled “40 Days.”

Who is Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez?

Raina Sokolov-Gonzalez is a singer/composer based in Brooklyn, New York. Born into a family of musicians, the love of music runs deep in her veins. Rooted in Jazz and R&B, the songwriter invites listeners into her unique sonic world with harmonic nuance and lyrical poetry.

With improvisation as a starting point for her songs, Raina draws on her emotionality and leans into her perception of the world around, articulating personal truth with vulnerability and bravery. Songwriting is Raina’s way of processing and understanding life and its complexity.

About the song 40 Days

Raina’s latest single “40 Days” is a subtly complex story about a struggle to let go due to an unhealthy attachment, “I fought for you when I knew it wasn’t right.” It’s hard to let go and it’s especially hard to let go of people who have hurt you. At the core of “40 Days” is the desire to let go and live in expansive harmony. Community, shared truth and recognition set us free.

Here at Fromgirltogirl.com we like that “40 Days” is soulful and romantic, which captivates us from start to finish as Raina’s smoky, sensual vocals glide over the soundtrack.

New Music: PinkFiz – ‘Did I Ask?’ | Female Consent and Sexual Harassment Anthem

PinkFiz photoshoot

18-year-old punk-pop artist PinkFiz from Cambridgeshire has released her new single “Did I Ask?” to emphasize the importance of female consent and why we all need to do our part to end sexual harassment. The new single touches on punk/rock instrumentation, radiating a brooding bassline, fast-paced drums, and a howling lead guitar. The clashing guitars are a juxtaposition to PinkFiz’s soft, muted vocals, as she sings, “she’s not your possession.”

PinkFiz confides, “I wrote this song about the phrase “she was asking for it” because I was really angry that day about it and I needed to get all my frustration about it into words and into a song. I am very passionate about fighting for equality and about making opportunities for everyone the same. As a female guitarist, I have been overlooked in the past and disregarded and I’ve often felt invalidated and seen as not as good as my male peers. I also recalled being robbed of opportunities in school and begging for a chance to play something more technical and difficult but the parts I would ask for were always given to an older male teacher without me having a shot at trying them.”

PinkFiz represents female empowerment and the songwriters pride in being an independent female artist and producer. With the hopes to make listeners feel invincible and capable of anything, she hopes the empowering song will help listeners feel like they stomping on top of the world.

Here at Fromgirltogirl, we enjoy the catchy chorus of ‘Did I Ask?’ and appreciate the messaging of encouraging sexual consent. Although our society needs to enforce more policies and laws to protect women against sexual abuse and violence, we know we must keep the conversation going to make a better world for not only us but our future generations. We cannot stay silent.

Seven Spies band mates are a three-piece band consisting of David Blomiley (vocals, guitar, piano), Olly Brown (drums, backing vocals) and an ever-rotating bassist.

London childhood friends, Seven Spies, are a three-piece band ready to infiltrate the ears of the world. Consisting of David Blomiley (vocals, guitar, piano), Olly Brown (drums, backing vocals) and an ever-rotating bassist, music fans can expect to witness a healthy dose of melodic riffs and anthemic choruses because Seven Spies fuses the best of rock bands — such as Muse and Radiohead, while highlighting vocals reminiscent of Jeff Buckley and Bjork.

Their highly anticipated debut single “Chameleon” narrates the different faces, personas and behaviour we put on to negotiate our daily lives in different situations and the pressure people place on themselves to hide their struggles and internal demons to the outside world. Sonically the chorus shows a defiance against these pressures, external and internal, saying in the end they won’t overwhelm or control who or how we want to be.

Self-produced by Blomiley and Brown in their bedroom studio and mastered by John Davis (The Killers, Lana del Rey, Royal Blood, Lewis Capaldi, Gorillaz) at Metropolis Studios, “Chameleon” delivers an intimate, yet polished result. Featuring gritty, raucous guitars, tenacious melodies and textured harmonies, showcasing Blomiley’s impressive vocals, “Chameleon” is an energetic release, bursting with both conviction and charisma.  Listen now to “Chameleon.”

Now playing: ‘Not the Girl’ by Natalie Shay

At 21, Natalie Shay is one of the UKs hottest emerging musicians, with her unforgettable live performances and viral-worthy anthems.

Shay’s upcoming EP NAKED is a five-track release delving into the everyday experiences of a 21 year old, detailing relationships and life as a young musician. Continuing the songwriter’s love of 80’s soaked music, NAKED cleverly blends the best of era with modern flares.

Shay expresses, “I love authentic 80s synth and drum sounds, but I also love modern pop vocal lines and effects. And of course lots of guitars. I try to include a flavour of each of those things in my music. It was very important to me that all of the songs had their own unique stamp and vibe but still all fitted and worked together under the same project”.

Shay wrote the leading single “Not The Girl” to reflect on modern relationship from a point of understanding rather than a big ‘f*ck you,”, depicting the feeling of sometimes not feeling good enough and struggling to resist temptations. At the end of the day, relationships are work and it is always possible to get to a point where compatibility is lost but we hold on because of the fear of being alone.
