FG2G Music Listen: Debut EP Liquid Smooth by Lunar Lander Dance Commander

Lunar Lander Dance Commander releases Debut EP Liquid Smooth. It is now available on iTunes, Google Play and Spotify. Picture of the band displays.

As the holidays approach, Fromgirltogirl has been updating our music catalogue to make sure we keep the festivities going for the holiday season. That’s when noticed the Canadian band Lunar Lander Dance Commander and their new EP “Liquid Smooth,”a Synth Rock synergy that showcases the band’s personality with a captivating and natural texture in production, while retaining the grit of a modern rock band.

The Lunar Lander Dance Commander band is similar in sound to artists such as The B-52s or Metric. If you like alt rock, alt pop, surf or dance, this band and their new EP is worth a listen.

About the new EP “Liquid Smooth”

The EP is called “Liquid Smooth” because it was the first name Chris (Bass and Vocals) and Donny (Guitar and Vocals) wanted to call the band. Instead they compromised with their fellow band members to be called The Lunar Lander Dance Commander. But it works out because their debut EP is Liquid Smooth.

Below is the tracklist for “Liquid Smooth”
Track List:

1. Creeper

2. We Won’t Go

3. Free  — Love this song!

4. Open Your Eye

5. Rooftop Renegade   — They are jamming!

6. Free (Soak It In Remix)

Chrystyna Marie new album ‘LIFE’ gives LA blues, rock and pop

Chrystyna Marie LIFE album cover

LA. Blues. Rock. Pop. Chrystyna Marie has it all on her new album “LIFE.” Marie has a similar sound to Elle King, Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse. You’ll hear bass, drums and percussion throughout the album. And you’ll listen to plenty piano, organ and guitar… the harmonic and trumpet.

The album LIFE was produced, engineered and mixed by David Gavin Baxter at Knob & Tube recording, mastered by Phil Demetro. There are eight songs in total that will have you jamming from start to finish. Some of my favorite tracks are ‘I want That Boom Boom,’ ‘Mr. Insecurity,’ and ‘A Woman Knows.’

Have a listen to Chrystyna Marie‘s ‘LIFE’  album on Spotify.

About Chrystyna Marie

Originally hailing from Toronto, Marie sings with a powder keg voice over a cocktail of grungy blues and pop. She is a classically trained singer. Marie also has a background in acting, with lead roles in local community plays such as West Side Story as Maria and Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.

Surf Rock listens: ‘Caffeine and Nicotine’ by Blakeley

Blakeley smokes a cigarette and sings her single Caffeine and Nicotine.

Pop star Blakeley has a single called “Caffeine & Nicotine,” out and it’s definitely worth a listen. The single has a bouncy variant of electronic rock and gritty thematic elements. If you enjoy bubblegum pop and surf rock, you’ll appreciate this track. It reminds me of chilling in an alternative culture, coffee shop, quintessentially Brooklyn. And it gets better. Blakeley has a new EP coming out this winter. Fromgirltogirl highly recommends checking it out if you are someone that is looking for an EP to vibe to that isn’t oppressive or over the top topics.  Listen to “Caffeine & Nicotine” on Itunes.

  • She delivers a bold crossover composition that merges elements of folk, EDM, rockabilly pop to present a marriage of confessional poetry, deep house music, and effervescent guitar twanging.
  • She writes, produces, and performs her work in different mediums.

Find more of her music, videos, and galleries on her official website and Facebook. Let us know what you think of Caffeine & Nicotine.

Artist Temporary Hero celebrates island R&B music with LP ‘Indigo’

With daring and wrenching presentation, eclectic electro-pop musical artist Temporary Hero releases his newest LP ‘Indigo’ as a producer and performer acclaimed for the top 20 track ‘Wildjoy’ and the music video ‘Circus.’ If you love the dance music genre, you will enjoy the boldness of this album. Check it out on Spotify.

2017 LP Indigo by Temporary Hero.

For the ‘Indigo’ album, Temporary Hero traveled to St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, after a personal tragedy to reinvigorate his life. It also allowed him to found inspiration from the island, ocean and his inner soul. Every song from the album is conjured through his experiences on the island. Listen to the song ‘ Can I Kiss you Now?’ and you will hear a story within the towns of  Christiansted and Frederiksted on St. Croix. The island sounds are woven in some of the tracks, without overt pop/reggae songs – except for the only bonus track a cover of Blondie’s faux-reggae song The Tide Is High.’ That song is performed on the mandolin.

‘Temporary Hero’ has sounds like Sade and Justin Timberlake – you will hear this in “Can I Kiss You Now?” But he is also like Ed Sheehan, John Mayer, and Shawn Mendes. We love kiss you now because of smooth guitar and beat of the drum against the sultry vocals of ‘Temporary Hero.’ One our favorite songs from the Indigo is ShipWrecked – it is jamming.

To learn more about Temporary Hero follow him on Facebook, Twitter and visit the website at AntiCodonRecords.com.

About Temporary Hero

Starting out making underground club records like Ballet remixed by legendary Andre Lodemann, the artist pushed his craft into contemporary dance music territory after forging his way into the top 20 Billboard club chart with WILDJOY featuring Jason Walker. After, he visited a cross-genre platform focusing on current and futuristic pop music with first full LP”Sunset People” featuring the MTV hit “Circus.” The pop and dance circuit is just the tip of the iceberg for this artist. He has covered Sinatra and Bing, Chet Baker and then covered 1/2 of Fleetwood Mac’s polarizing TUSK album to critical acclaim.

A time to ‘Resist’: new music from R&B artist Agency

In a highly politicized society,  political statements and powerful, informed dialogues matter, even in the form of music. ‘Resist’ by Agency gives that  and more with a political statement in the form of highly politicized music of the 60’s and 70’s  translated in the style of modern R&B. Listening to the album, you’ll hear traces of world, electronic, pop and rock influences, while enjoying the breadth and eccentrics of modern R&B. You can listen and share ‘Resist’ on Spotify and iTunes today.

Agency is similar to musical artists such as Frank Ocean, Sampha, Gallant, James Blake, FKA Twigs, and Drake. As an artist, Agency’s attitude is grounded in music story telling to cover the human experience, shed light, support hope and let go of regrets and fears. In between recording the followup to the critically acclaimed debut album IDENTITY, Agency decided to discuss, the utter turmoil and social upheaval centered around the US political climate.

Drawing upon various musical influences, including house, hip-hop, funk, and even blues, this set strives to expose the inequities, fears, and hope of existing generations and generations to come. Some songs, like original “Till & Marrow” draw the subject from racially charged incidences from the past. This song specifically address the killings of Emmet Till and Henry Marrow.

Senses of Insecurity is a breathtaking lamentation, setting a poem by Maya Angelou to stark instrumentation and melody. And tackling two covers, the lesser known Sinead O’Connor tune “Black Boys On Mopeds” and Jimi Hendrix’s Machine Gun, the act demonstrates through song that many of today’s issues are rooted in the past. Resist album is now available from Agency.

Loss for diversity: ‘East Los High’ cancelled on Hulu

Today Hulu announced that the Emmy-nominated series East Los High will end with an hour-long finale this fall. The show was one of the few scripted digital realm series created by Latinos with an all-Latino cast and majority Latino writing staff. The National Hispanic Media Coalition says the cancellation of East Los High is a loss for diversity in entertainment. The series became one of the Hulu’s top 10 shows, helping draw one million unique visitors monthly to its Hulu Latino page. Additionally, East Los High won the award for Outstanding Online Series at last year’s Latino Impact Awards, hosted by the National Hispanic Media Coalition.

Alex Nogales, president and CEO of the National Hispanic Media Coalition said:

“The ending of East Los High on Hulu is a tremendous loss of a show that celebrated diversity through the story it portrayed and the way it broke barriers in the entertainment industry as one of the only series to be created, produced, written by and starring Latinos. Viewers are already looking for the next series that will boldly represent them behind and in front of the camera and NHMC will continue to work with Hulu in their future efforts to support diverse and culturally relevant programming over the long-term.”

The show was the first original series on Hulu to be granted a fourth season – the big break that Latino creatives needed. The series has staffed Latino writers, including alumni of NHMC’s TV writers program, on every season and they need more opportunities to tap into the immense talent in their communities and put their stories on the screen.

Mauricio Mota, executive producer of East Los High, accepted NHMC’s Latino Impact Award for the series saying, “We are still going through what I call a “Rosita Parks” situation with Latino content both with studios and media: You can be here, but please stay in the back of the bus. We want your eyeballs but not your stories. East Los High was created knowing audiences were starving for content that was diverse, edgy, and creative. It’s a show about English-speaking Latinos, but it relates to audiences everywhere.”

Watch Mota’s acceptance speech here:

Nine graduates of NHMC’s Latino TV Writers Program were staffed on East Los High. The writers program, accepting applications, is a five-week, total immersion workshop that simulates an actual writer’s room and participants develop an original pilot, practice pitching their writing and learn how to market themselves and get an agent.

The NHMC Television Writers Program, sponsored by NBCUniversal and Disney/ABC Television Group, was created to expand the number of Latinos working behind the camera, as a way to increase fair and accurate portrayals of Latinos on television. During the 2013-14 television season, Latinos composed only 2.8 percent of writers staffed on TV shows, despite that Latinos make up 17% of the U.S. population.

About the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC)

The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is a media advocacy and civil rights organization for the advancement of Latinos, working towards a media that is fair and inclusive of Latinos, and towards universal, affordable, and open access to communications.
