Now playing: Blinding Lights by The Weeknd

Welcome to fall. This is the perfect season for cycling. New research reveals the top-15 best songs for cycling, with The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ claiming the lead position as best song.

Listen to Blinding Lights by The Weeknd.

The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,”was named the best song for cycling due to its high-energy beat perfectly matching the cycling rhythm. Following closely in the 2nd and 3rd slots are Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s track “Can’t Hold Us” and Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa’s hit “One Kiss.”

The Grammy Award-winning Imanbek Remix of SAINt JHN’s “Roses” grabs the 5th spot on the chart, with a staggering 1.7 billion streams on Spotify.

Rapper Eminem also makes the list with “Till I Collapse,” a track that resonates strongly with the challenges faced by cyclists.

Landing at the 12th position is “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas, still a top choice among riders even 14 years after the song’s been released.

While the list is largely dominated by tracks from American musicians, Puerto Rican artist Farruko breaks through with his song “Pepas” and secures the 9th place out of the top 15. With that in mind, Whizz, an e-bike rental platform for delivery drivers, examined 4,958 tracks from 30 popular cycling playlists on Spotify – and the findings might surprise you!

Group of people cycling.

Mike Peregudov, co-founder and CEO of Whizz, commented: “It’s really no wonder that cyclists’ favorite tracks all feature the same fast pace. For many riders, the right tunes can be as crucial to setting a new personal record or getting through a tiring day of delivery work as much as the shoes they wear or the food they eat. Seriously, the psychological effect of music can distract from pain and fatigue, elevate our mood, and increase endurance — and the higher the tempo, the better the results. Past studies have shown that songs with a high BPM lead to a higher heart rate when compared to no music or slower tracks. This is because our bodies have a way of synchronizing with the song we’re listening to, so upbeat music is naturally among the best motivators on a long ride.”

Now Playing: ‘Greater Than’ by Zach Churchill

Los Angeles-based Singer Songwriter Zach Churchill bares his soul without reservation on his confessional, potent new album “Greater Than.” It includes the lead single “Surrender.”

It’s an appropriate precursor to this bold album, exploring difficult feelings and painful trauma with a brave curious spirit. The single deals with addiction and hopelessness, yet there is healing and hope in its underlying music and message. Whether welcoming or foreboding, truth is Zach’s artistic and life mantra.

Zach Churchill’s Greater Than album makes for genuine storytelling.

Churchill elaborates on the album-writing process, explaining how it was therapeutic and encouraged him to trust his inner compass:

“Greater Than,” was written and recorded in Sherman Oaks, CA with my producer and friend, Tom Rasulo. Amidst a bunch of changes and trials in my personal life, the studio was a refuge and safe place for me to process all that was happening. I was able to explore difficult feelings, reflect on my current circumstances, and digest painful experiences. Basically, this album was incredibly therapeutic. It represents an incredibly important period in my life when I finally began to trust myself.

The title track, “Greater Than”, is about making other people your Higher Power and then being disappointed when they let you down, and finally coming to terms with the painful truth that no human being will ever be able to save or fix you.

“Surrender” is about addiction being the result of untreated trauma. “Each day is the same, I wake up in pain, and repeat what I fear with no resolution.”

“The past, it is real, and it’s living inside you. This pain, it can heal, you can change if you want to…”

Fromgirltogirl.com review of ‘Greater Than’ Album

The ‘Greater Than’ album is a splendor of emotions from track to track. We enjoy the story of overcoming struggle. Even if some of the lyrics can have us in our feelings, Zach Churchill keeps the instrumentals on the album upbeat or at a tempo that can be heard when you are having a good or bad day. It’s an easy 50 minute listen.

He pulls no punches: His lead single “Bartender” chronicles a harrowing heroin overdose. “The person I’m singing to saved my life,” Zach explains. “He was closing up at 2:00 a.m. at the venue when I overdosed. Everyone was gone, but he checked the bathroom because the light was on. The door was locked, so he got the key and found me. If he had just gone home I’d be dead.”

In the hospital, after a medically induced coma, Zach was forced to face his family and himself.

“You hit your bottom when you stop digging,” Churchill says.

The song is all about him saying ‘I’m done.’

Heartbreak and Hope was recorded with noted producer, artist, and multi-instrumentalist Julian Coryell who invited key musicians to power the tracks.

About Zach Churchill

On a recent journey Zach traveled The Camino de Santiago, an ancient European pilgrim route leading to the tomb of St. James in northwest Spain, a sacred path with a profound history. “I was surrounded by people who were on the pilgrimage for spiritual reasons, this great family,” he recalls. “With the right attitude, every day of my life can be an adventure like The Camino.”

Stream lead single “Surrender” on Spotify.

‘Greater Than’ Album Tracklist

11 songs serve as musical mile markers commemorating a 10 year journey through Zach Churchill twenties — a decade that he barely survived.

Now playing: Daisies | Raye Robinson

Raye Robinson pictured with a Daisy in her mouth.

We are officially titling summer 2021 “we’re outside,” as we start to see the light at the end of tunnel, regarding the Coronavirus Pandemic. To get you ready for a great summer, here is Daisies by Raye Robinson who is a Los Angeles alternative pop artist. Raye Robinson is a bowl of sunshine and femininity with her new track. The song is also a reminiscent of Lily Allen meets Billie Eilish.

If you haven’t heard of Raye Robinson, she has garnered acclaim from the likes of Live Nation’s Ones to Watch and Earmilk.

Through honest songwriting and relatable themes, Raye Robinson creates a fresh and intoxicating sound, emitting an innocence and dreaminess that continues to whisk music lovers away to their own delight.

Having previously performed in bands, her time alone during the pandemic has allowed Robinson to dive into her music and self while discovering her love for taking creative control over her sound.

Produced by Rob Auerbach, out of his do-it-yourself (DIY) garage studio, Robinson’s upcoming music emits a spunky, fun, laidback and feel good vibe that is sure to become a summer favorite.

The debut single “Daisies” is the first track off of her upcoming EP entitled Crushes & Love Songs. Unsurprisingly the song is a matter of the heart, narrating her unfortunate and confusing love situation.

The songwriter confides, “I ended things with a guy that I was seeing because I was afraid to get into something serious. After we stopped seeing each other, though, I really missed the connection we had, and I couldn’t stop wondering ‘Does he miss me too? Does he hate me now? Did I make the right decision?’”

Robinson explains this sparked her thinking about the “he loves me, he loves me not,” picking petals from flowers trope. She shares “I immediately loved using the word ‘daisies’ in the hook, and from there the rest of the song came together pretty quickly!”

“Daisies” starts off with an intimate, minimalistic feel laced in tender piano hits, the track bursts to life with a bass-infused piano, soft vocals and glassy, light production. The song carries a diverse use of keys creating a soundscape of heavy and light with an almost old-school Lily Allen-esque bounce to the rhythm. The track is beaming in sunshine and femininity creating warmth to the track which radiates through its simplicity.
