Black is Beautiful. Black is Me.

By Briana Booker

It is the first day of Black History Month. I would like to list 23 reasons why Black women are beautiful. I am a black woman and 23 years is how long I have been alive. I know I come from a beautiful culture and I know I am a beautiful woman inside and out. I hope my ability to see that I am beautiful not only helps Black Women value themselves more but all women. Here are my 23 reasons why Black Women are Beautiful:

  1. We are loving and compassionate, even when demonstrating tough love…we love with all our body and soul.
  2. We are strong matriarchs in our community. We are leaders of our households. We serve our community. We teach our communities to progress.
  3. We know how to make ugly turn to  beautiful and magnificant.
  4. We know how to sing the blues melodic and soulful until we surpass the storms of our lives.
  5. We age well.
  6. We are not afraid to praise  God, no matter if we are at rock bottom or on top of the world.
  7. We have confidence that make mountains move to get us where we want to be.
  8. We have style and make anything we wear our own.
  9. Our lips are a taste of heaven.
  10. Our bodies are distinctive and remarkable works of art, no matter how big or small.
  11. We have courage.
  12. We are driven.
  13. We know how to make our dreams realities.
  14. We are innovative.

LAID is an anthology of more than 40 true stories of youth sharing their life changing sexual experiences. The narrators range from the ages 18 to 25! We recommend it for its hindsight and confidence for all to experience emotionally and physically healthy sex life-styles.

Recently she had a meeting with the Oprah Winfrey network about her new book!  It is definitely a must read on hookups, positive experiences, physical consequences, date rape and abstinence! To learn more about Shannon, Thosegirlsarewild and LAID check out the links below!
