New Music: ‘9 Lives’ by The Cheek of Her

The-Cheek-of-Her-songtress
London native The Cheek of Her that has a tell it like it is attitude similar to Amanda Palmer and PJ Harvey, is releasing a new EP and music video for the summer. If you are not familiar with The Cheek of Her, the musician has gained airplay in the UK on BBC Radio 2 (Alex Lester), and further European national radio coverage in Ireland, Switzerland, Romania, Luxembourg and Holland. Her “Black Heart Mantra” EP was released May 2nd, and her new video for “9 Lives” just came out. You can check out her lead single “9 Lives” and watch the video now:

The video “9 Lives” was produced by  Pedro Chaves of Dream Journey Studios. Chaves is a longterm TCOH collaborator. This video is one of his most adventurous yet, as it combines a mixture of live-action with hand drawn cartoon sketches working in tandem with their surroundings. It is like a game of cat and mouse, but with a cat and a bird.

Chaves and singer/ songwriter Helen  Dooley came up with the same notion of a cartoon cat losing it’s life again and again, which matched the theme of the Single “9 Lives”, and trying desperately hard to attain something again and again, but failing. The take from the video: you have to keep on trying in order to make it in life.

We really enjoy the Pop/ Rock / Alternative style  and the creativity of not only the video but also the EP. To learn about the band members/ instruments: Helen Dooley (Singer, Songwriter, Piano) Sean Kennedy (Guitars, Bass, String programming) Chris Hardwick (Drums) visit their website TheCheekOfHer.com. Listen to “Black Heart Mantra” today with witty lyrics and catchy melodies, delivered with a unique, heartfelt, often dark, but raw edginess. Leave a comment and let us know what you think. Now playing ‘Pretty Girls’ by Yourz Truly

Yourz Truly releases hit single pretty girls

It’s spring time and you know what that means? The ‘Pretty Girls’ will be out and about. Atlanta music artist Yourz Truly, also known as Y.T. has released his single ‘Pretty Girls’ from his upcoming debut EP  ‘First Impression’ of Spring 2016. The track has a smooth vibe and it could definitely make the top 10 slow jam list. But why are people so in love with the song ‘Pretty Girls?’

It comes down to more women accepting their body image even if media may not. Songs that tell women to embrace their feminine beauty encourages girls to be proud of their self-image no matter if the media barrages women with images that do not resemble their own. Having a positive man acknowledge their beauty is just the cherry on top, but to see women proud to sing a song about their beauty really hits home. Women do not have to accept sociocultural standards anymore because they hold the power to their self-worth. Years ago, that was not the case because more women faced body image anxiety. How do you perceive your body? We all are beautiful just the way we are.

You can have a listen to Yourz Truly’s ‘Pretty Girls’ song now and feel free to watch the video. If you like what you hear and see of Yourz Truly, follow him on Instagram. He is definitely an artist to keep an eye on. Leave a comment to let us know what you think about the single and Yourz Truly today. You can buy the song ‘Pretty Girls’ on itunes.
