Ryan Seacrest is synonymous with New Year’s Eve and Fromgirltogirl couldn’t help notice that Seacrest rang in the New Year with the most anticipated 2017 color and style trends, donning a custom Ryan Seacrest Distinction tuxedo. Seacrest’s look – entirely from his eponymous menswear collection – showcased the handsome host as a fashion trendsetter and beloved on-air personality with enviable style. The Ryan Seacrest Distinction custom look included:

  • Ryan Seacrest Distinction GREEN BROCADE Jacket with Shawl Collar
  • Ryan Seacrest Distinction FRENCH-CUFF WHITE SHIRT; SPREAD COLLAR BIB FRONT PIQUE
  • Ryan Seacrest Distinction accessories: BLACK BOWTIE; BLACK ONYX CUFFLINKS and WHITE POCKET SQUARE
  • Ryan Seacrest Distinction BLACK RIB SHAWL OVERCOAT
  • Gucci patent leather cap toe loafer

During “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2017,” he sported a green brocade Ryan Seacrest Distinction jacket with shawl collar, a subtle nod to the anticipated surge in green throughout menswear in 2017. A clean white French-cuff bib front pique shirt, classic black bowtie and timeless black loafer tied the look together, as a Distinction black rib shawl overcoat kept the host warm while broadcasting live from Times Square.

This year marks the 45th anniversary of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2017” and featured 5½ hours of special performances and reports on New Year’s celebrations from around the globe, with performance acts in New York, New Orleans and Los Angeles. “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2017” is produced by Dick Clark Productions with Ryan Seacrest, Allen Shapiro and Mike Mahan serving as executive producers and Barry Adelman and Mark Bracco as co-executive producers. Larry Klein is producer. Fromgirltogirl loved every moment of it. Check out the style here:

The Ryan Seacrest Distinction collection is available exclusively at Macys and Macys.com.

Newlyweds: Making a new home

Best bedding for newlyweds

Newlyweds often find that moving in together, making their new home together, is both fun and challenging. Joining your households together can be frustrating, especially when you realize your tastes are extremely different. While you may be lucky to agree on most things, at some point there will come a time when the two of you won’t see eye-to-eye on something, and that’s when compromise comes into play.

A Happy Medium

Whether you are trying to blend feminine touches with masculine edges or fighting the desire to make your home look too ‘girly’, it is possible to make that happy medium and make your home a place which truly reflects both of your tastes, harmoniously. Keep in mind that when making your new home, quality is what counts the most. Your new décor is going to be around for years, so you’re going to need items that are durable and worth the money! The Company Store is renowned for providing 100 years of quality, comfort and care through the best US-crafted comforters, fashion bedding, and home décor. When you don’t know where to start at such a hectic transition in life, starting with a brand that you can trust will make everything easier. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you plan:

Sleeping couples after wedding

  1. Look at your styles. Each of you has a personal style, but what is it? Do you like organization or does too much drive you crazy? Big, bold colors, or muted ones? Do you love modern touches or do you prefer a more ‘homespun’ look? Sitting down, talking this out, and agreeing on the elements you want in your home can help. The Company Store offers home décor which will fit any style—and will help mesh two styles together, seamlessly. Their Legends Luxury Collection is perfect for newlyweds, it will have your home looking like royalty!
  2. Next take stock. What do you already have, and what do you need? If your linens are old and worn, time to toss them and start all over. The bedroom is a great place to begin decorating, anyway, because this is a place you will spend a lot of time. Make your bedroom a comfortable oasis, away from the stress of your daily lives. The Dual-Weight Comforter by LaCrosse, from The Company Store is perfect for newlyweds, because it looks great and it offers different temperatures on each side, so no matter how you like to sleep, you can sleep at your preferred comfort level (avoiding a lot of blanket tug-of-war at night). And when it comes to the bedroom, splurge a little! Purchase sumptuous bed linens which will offer you a comfortable place to sleep, and choose a gorgeous duvet which will make your bedroom a place of pride.
  3. Look around for inspiration. If you’re just not sure what you want the living room to look like (or the rest of the house) head to the internet for inspiration. Take to sites like Pinterest or Real Simple to find ideas. Go through the images you like to figure out what design elements move you.
  4. Shop together. Sounds like a no-brainer, but sometimes people forget they are part of a couple now, time to shop together to avoid any arguments later. When you are together you’ll look for finds you both love; and hey, maybe one of you has a better eye for detail than the other.
  5. Paint! One fun and simple way to change the look of your new home is through new paint. Go to the home store together and grab paint swatches and then come home and choose; some companies are even offering small paint tubs for purchase so you can take them home and ‘swatch’ the walls. Neutral colors are always safe, but you may want to add a bolder color to a single wall to compliment your new home décor.

National Wedding Columnist

No matter what you choose, remember this is the place you will both live now, so you should both love the items you pick out. Compromise is often key!

Briana Booker talks hair, fashion and Hennessy

Hennessy art of the Chase with Ryan McGinness

Fall is on the way and life is changing by the minute. Just last week I was in sunny Philadelphia drinking Hennessy with Ryan McGinness, an art rock star of our time, interviewing him on his label design for Hennessy and the 250th anniversary of the company. Read Ryan McGinness the man behind the creative: a raw & reflective 1:1 interview for the full interview.

The girl from West Baltimore would have never imagined having the opportunity to write for Hennessy. I don’t even think the girl could imagine drinking alcohol or premium cognac like Hennessy. I seriously never picked up a drink until I was over the age of 21. I was one of those kids, afraid of what would happen if my parents found out. Now, I’m just here for the journey, the experience.

Philadelphia was the first stop on my FG2G tour. What is the FG2G tour? It’s a tour about community empowerment and self-discovery. I like to call it God’s journey. I felt myself becoming complacent about my career and personal life ( is that still a thing?) but I’m not one to be complacent. I’ve always been a person passionate about my actions and how they affect those around me and I’ve always been so wildly ambitious that the thought of accepting the world with all its chaos never crossed my mind. I was getting to the point of being comfortable with settling for ordinary and not pushing myself. The whole mindset didn’t sit easy with me. In fact, it’s very much out of character for me.  I needed a change. It was time to go back to finding my purpose and not doing it for money, recognition or acceptance. I had to do it for me and what I strongly believe is my purpose to do as much good in the world as I can possibly do as an instrument of God. I got up one morning and I felt some higher being told me it was time to give up planning my life in order for me to prepare for the life God has waiting for me.  The result is this FG2G tour. The next stop is Miami and I don’t know what really will come of it, but I’m ready for whatever happens next and have faith God will be with me every step of the way.

In other news, I feel I’ve found a passion in travel journalism. I’m going across America traveling to hear the stories and community empowerment happening around us everyday. Not sure if it’s a project or not, I just know it’s breathing life into me. Here is a recent travel story I did for Matrix StyleLink. Enjoy.

Chicago Head Turning Fashion Entrepreneur: Factor Eleven

Factor Eleven Fashion by Elizabeth Jones
Photography by Julie Newell. Tutu created by fashion designer Elizabeth Jones of Factor Eleven.

By Elizabeth Jones

In 2012, I arrived in Chicago with my newly minted bachelor’s degree in fashion design. My arrival brought with the all-to-common realization that pursuing my career of choice appeared mutually exclusive with the ability to keep the lights on in my small apartment. Trying to be realistic, and my love of being able to eat regularly led me to the only profession in which I had any marketable skills – retail. Importantly, I do not want to imply in any way that retail is a lesser career – I had just thought I was on the way to designing the dress hanging in the window instead of selling it. While my retail job let me pay for rent, I never stopped searching for my chance to break into the fashion design industry. In a year of searching, the closest I came was an entry-level design position that was unpaid, but unpaid internships are the avenue into difficult fields, right? The designer quashed that hope – “You can’t be a fashion designer in Chicago anymore.”

Frustrated, I looked for anyway in which I could jumpstart my design career.  After researching the paths of others like me, I launched my Etsy shop, Factor Eleven, in May 2013. Initially, I sold what I knew, women’s hair accessories, but was never able to make consistent sales. By 2014, having tried the traditional 9 to 5 office job, I started to nanny for a three-month-old baby girl with a very stylish mother, which turned out to be a great fit. As she grew, I made her gifts like bibs, bow holders, and personalized onesies. For her one-year photo shoot, her mother asked me if I could make a tutu that matched the colors of her room. Having never made a tutu, I did my research and at the shoot Julie Newell, the photographer, ended up loving it. They asked if I would collaborate with them, which has led to the rebooted Factor Eleven you can find online today.

Some might see designing for infants and toddlers as a compromise, but the market is diverse and active, allowing a bold and over-the-top look that just would not work with women’s wear. My tutus are inspired by seasons, color trends, walks through fabric stores, and the ideas of customers. A few months ago a mother of twins came to me looking for a tutu set for her daughter and a matching bow-tie for her son to wear for a golden safari themed birthday shoot. After lots of research on the golden safari theme I created custom matching accessories in burlap and lace, a combination I wouldn’t have previously thought would work. Sometimes customers offer the inspiration themselves. asking if I could design  After the photo-shoot, many use the tutus to play dress up – some even order them specifically for that purpose. I love hearing that a little girl wore one of my designs to school or “just won’t take it off.” I am proud to have designed items that are cherished.

I do not design couture wedding dresses in a fashion house overseas, but I am proud to tell people all about what I do. Not because I “work in fashion” rather because I am doing something I love and am passionate about. I have fun creating new designs, get excited to seeing the beautiful photos that Julie Newell Photography takes of them, and am truly happy to hear stories about the little girl’s who wore them.

A Guide to Finding Perfect Women’s Shoes

Finding the perfect shoes

Shoes are a staple in a woman’s wardrobe. You can never have enough shoes! You need shoes for each season of the year; you need shoes for different occasions; you need shoes to wear around the house; and you need shoes for every outfit. And no matter your weight, you can always find a pair of shoes to make you feel wonderful and chase away the blues!

This article provides tips on finding your perfect shoes. Your perfect shoes will depend on a number of factors. Your body type decides what type of shoes you should avoid or prefer. Your clothes will help you select the best pair from what you have in the closet. You need to match shoes with occasion. You cannot wear the same shoes for work and a party. Finally, if the shoes are not comfortable, it can create many problems for you in the long run.

Body Type and Your Shoes:

When you select shoes, a few things depend on your body type;let’s discuss them first. For short women, the 2-3 inches heel shoes work best. Very high heels can make you look off-balance. Use the rest of the outfit to elongate, by toning shoes to stockings and skirt or to socks and trousers. Match the tone of top to bottom for even more height. If you have thick ankles and heavy calves, sling backs are the most flattering style. Knee high boots are also a nice choice. Shoes that are too chunky or too delicate will make your legs look heavier. Avoid square toes, stiletto heels, wedges and platforms.

If you have thick calves, avoid mid calf boots. If you have long feet, the pointy shoes will make your legs look longer. An oval or squared toe works best for such shoes. The Shape of the heels should match the shape of your body. If you are heavy, a skinny stiletto will exaggerate your weight. A thicker heel style is the better option.

Here are the few pointers on how to match clothes with shoes:

1. Very long and very short skirts look better with lower heels.

2. Narrow pants look best with lower heels.

3. The heavier the shoe, the more casual it becomes.

4. When worn with a skirt, a high cut shoe can make the leg appear heavier and shorter. Wear high cut shoes with pants.

5. Usually a shoe is the same color family as your outfit, but not an exact match.

6. Black is too heavy for lighter tones outfit and cut the leg length

7. White shoes are very stark and create break in the line of your leg. Try cream or ivory.

7. You can elongate the appearance of your legs by matching the tone of the hose to shoes. Matching hose to a brightly colored shoe is too much color and opt for skin colored hose.

Comfortable Shoes

Shoes comfort depends on three primary factors: the fitting, design, and material.

  • Fitting: When we buy a few pair of shoes, we know what size fits us well for different shoes brands. I would suggest to pay attention to both the size and the width of the shoes. For example, try 7B versus the 7 1/2 A.
  • Design: Depending on your height, the recommenced heel height that will make you feel comfortable is different. In general the shorter and heavier the person, it becomes difficult to wear heels above two inches. If you want to wear heels more than two inches, do it in moderation. The kitten heels and Louis heels are good options for high heels shoes.
  • Material :Choose shoes made of breathable material so your feet gets the oxygen it needs, soft and flexible fabrics and leather to allow it greater freedom of movement, and a flexible and cushioned sole .
