Happy New Year 2012

2011 was full of ups and downs. I graduated school having no job to having a job. Went from having a cheater to having someone loving in my life. Went to White House and back. Life works in mysterious ways( will discuss my lessons from the challenges I faced in later articles). For now, I am sharing with you my bottle of blessings and prayers. I used a wine bottle my loved ones have consumed. I put piece of my praying plant in the bottle has well as blessing I have faith will come in 2012. It is uplifting to believe in better days. I hope you will join me. Fromgirltogirl at White House State Arrival of President of the Republic of Korea

Photography by Briana Booker 10/13/11 State Arrival of the Republic of Korea President at the White House

By Briana Booker

How did Fromgirltogirl get this amazing picture above?

We were invited by Mr. & Mrs.Obama to welcome His Excellency Lee Myung-Bak, President of the Republic of Korea & Mrs.Kim Yoon-Ok(his wife) to the United States. October 13,2011

It was raining & cold but I was literally 2feet away from President Obama on the South Lawn of the White House! The only separation between us are the children ahead of me!

Although my feet were killing me then (and now) & I was freezing in the rain, I got the perfect picture of President Obama. This picture turned our rainy day into a sunny day! Literally, after we left the White House in the morning, the sun came out.

We are tremendously honored we were able to attend the ceremony! See more pictures on our Facebook and Twitter!

Breaking the Chains of Poverty: 2011 GIRL EFFECT BLOGGING CAMPAIGN

By Briana Booker

If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, there is a way to break from the chains of misery poverty forces on billions of people in the world. Yes, we often blame corporate world policy and conduct for why we can not put bread on the table. We often blame corrupt governments for our lack of good quality of life. But why have not we turned our fingers to point at ourselves?

When we give ourselves power, we control our own destiny. What are we waiting for? Although many of us are living in poverty, we are at a cross-road where we can change the course of our future for the better. How?

The answer is in the Girl Effect. When we educate our girls we give them, our boys, moms, dads, and entire communities the chance to escape the injustices of poverty for good. When women are educated, they obtain higher paying jobs. They obtain better health care. They obtain the ability to give their families and themselves the ability to live out dreams.

Here are some cool facts, just in case you are skeptical of the power of the Girl Effect, via a book, published by Cambridge Press, called Mothers at Work: Effects on Children’s Well-being by Lois Hoffman and Lise Youngblade, with Rebekah Coley, Allison Fuligni, and Donna Kovacs:

-Daughters of employed mothers have been found to have higher academic achievement, greater career success, more nontraditional career choices, and greater occupational commitment.

– Daughters of employed mothers have been found to be more independent, particularly in interaction with their peers in a school setting, and to score higher on socioemotional adjustment measures. This gives girls the ability to become outstanding leaders in the community.

-Daughters with employed mothers, across the different groups, show more positive assertiveness as rated by teachers (that is, they participate in class discussions, they ask questions when instructions are unclear, they are comfortable in leadership positions), and they show less acting-out behavior. They are less shy, more independent and have a higher sense of efficacy.

-Working-class boys also show more positive social adjustment when their mothers are employed, and true for both one-parent and two-parent families.

-Research results suggest that most families accommodate to the mother’s employment and in doing so provide a family environment that works well.

Fromgirltogirl to Attend White House Tweetup: Arrival of President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea

Fromgirltogirl to attend the State Visit of President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea

By Briana Booker

Fromgirltogirl is excited and honored to attend, on October 13,2011, the State Visit of President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea at the White House, in which President Obama will be hosting.

The State Visit will highlight the strong alliance, global partnership and deep economic ties between the United States of America and the Republic of Korea.

The State Visit ceremony tradition started during the Kennedy Administration. The purpose of the State Visit is to formally welcome a visiting head of state to the United States of America.

The arrival ceremony for the Republic of Korea will be the largest White House Tweetup thus far because the Republic of Korea is one of the most wired nations in the world!

But what exactly is a tweetup?

A tweetup as defined by Macmillan Dicitionary is an “organized or impromptu ‘meeting’ between people who use Twitter. A tweetup can be an ad-hoc, face-to-face encounter between two people, but more often describes a wider social gathering, promoted and organized on Twitter itself. As well as a chance to satisfy our natural curiosity –a tweetup can also be a useful opportunity to participate in what is now sometimes described as offline networking, a chance to meet people who might be useful contacts for developing your career, business interests, or even favorite hobbies and leisure pursuits.”

Fromgirltogirl looks forward to the event! We will be posting pictures and writing about our adventures!

Stay tuned!

Wisdom You Learn In Your 20’s

1.”We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t fuck them.” – John Waters

2. Addison Tower updates us to 2011’s version of the previous commentary:

Let’s update this for 2011, if you go home with somebody, and they have books, inquire about a few books, pick one that suits your fancy, and ask them to pick their favorite part and show it to you. If they can’t answer your questions, if they hesitate or stall, and if they are illiterate, then don’t fuck them. Run like hell.-Lots of people can have books, but it matters about the appropriate age level and if they can read without sounding out the “big words.” If they can’t, then get out or you’ll forever be a babysitter. Don’t feel like you have to save them or feel bad about leaving. The American public schools are to blame. No child left behind? My ass.

America’s Most Wanted: Gumby Tries to Rob a Store…and Fails!

Best video footage this week! Someone posing as Gumby, the iconic television character, tries to rob a convenience store in Calfornia! Gumby almost achieved his agenda but then his wardrobe malfunctioned! Gumby big green hand got stuck in his pockets! Gumby only pulled out 26 cents. He could not reach his gun!

At least Gumby tried to be a polite robber. He told the clerk that he had intention to rob him.

The clerk simply thought it was a joke and he told Gumby was too busy cleaning to get robbed. Watch Gumby go bad! Too funny!
