Must Watch Movies – All In: The Fight for Democracy

United States of America flag

Today Fromgirltogirl had the opportunity to watch and review ALL IN: THE FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY, which examines the insidious issue of voter suppression in the United States. We love that the film highlights both personal experiences as well as historical insights to expose voter suppression issues while exploring options on how we can protect our democracy in the USA.

The movie also showcases expertise from Stacey Abrams, the former Minority Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives and offers an insider’s look into the laws and barriers that jeopardize fair voting for all Americans. The laws and barriers spotlighted in this film are a threat to the basic rights of citizens in the USA.

And Stacey truly Abrams shines in this film with her deliver and storytelling of voter suppression in the United States.

We recommend this film for middle schoolers, high schoolers and adults of all ages. We all also encourage grade school and higher education institutions to consider adding this film to their cirriculums.

It is so important to know American History so that we can ensure that we have the knowledge and awareness to become a better America.

America isn’t truly American without allowing fair opportunity and access to all who call the USA home or dream to call America home.

You can watch ALL IN: THE FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY on Amazon Prime Video on September 18. The movie is rated PG-13 and is 1h 43m.

‘Blue Wave’: How the Democrats swept into local and state office

Blue_Wave_Democracy

This week a  ‘Blue Wave’ swept Democrats into office at nearly every level of local and state government, including Flippable’s state legislative targets in Virginia and Washington State. Flippable broke down everything from turnout to individual candidate strategy, to margins of victory to fundraising stats. The breakdown helps paint the reality of the wins while explaining a bit of how we got here. The clearest takeaway is this: there is another way to win state-wide races and generate energy around to win local races that will have ripple effects all the way *up* the ballot. Flippable co-founder Catherine Vaughan had this to say about the results:

“[ The] massive wins were unprecedented, and they are a vital input into our plan for next year. Progressives demonstrated the power of a coordinated, down-ballot-focused movement to transform outrage into a targeted, successful electoral strategy. We’ve shown that we can rebuild democracy from the ground up, with energy for local candidates working its way up the ballot.

With a dozen seats under our belt this year, Flippable plans to scale to 100 seats in 2018, with an eye on flipping or breaking supermajorities in 15-20 chambers that we need to pass progressive policies and undo Republican gerrymandering and voter suppression efforts.”

Briana Fierce: Why I Became A Writer.

Discovering me...one day at a time.

By Briana Booker

I have chosen Broadcast Journalism as a career because I have a passion for uncovering injustice, promoting positive Global/social change and chasing down crucial stories that the community needs to be informed about to empower itself. This is why I decided to major in International Studies. I wanted to be informed about a variety of cross-cultural communications so I could relate to people of all walks of life. There is something remarkable about Journalism, just like music, a media story can connect people all over the world and change the world- in one headline, one vision, or one statement. This is possible more than ever with the online media platform. It is extraordinary.

There is something beautiful about human truth that broadcast journalism can reveal and capture. It honestly captures the essence of life, the human experience. The sorrow is captured. The joy is captured. The determination is captured. The drive is captured. This is life. I thrive on that type of atmosphere. Journalism is an investment to society that spreads information and helps leaders of today and builds leaders of tomorrow. Journalism is an insightful look into the world we live within.  Journalism opens up a medium for discussion of tough topics such as wars on complexion by spreading the word on documentaries such as Dark Girls, the struggle to revive a community broken by self-hatred and mutilation.  I want to be part of this revival of humanity, this movement to a new world order of prosperity through the spread of democracy and quality of life. This is why I have chosen to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism.
