New Music: PinkFiz – ‘Did I Ask?’ | Female Consent and Sexual Harassment Anthem

PinkFiz photoshoot

18-year-old punk-pop artist PinkFiz from Cambridgeshire has released her new single “Did I Ask?” to emphasize the importance of female consent and why we all need to do our part to end sexual harassment. The new single touches on punk/rock instrumentation, radiating a brooding bassline, fast-paced drums, and a howling lead guitar. The clashing guitars are a juxtaposition to PinkFiz’s soft, muted vocals, as she sings, “she’s not your possession.”

PinkFiz confides, “I wrote this song about the phrase “she was asking for it” because I was really angry that day about it and I needed to get all my frustration about it into words and into a song. I am very passionate about fighting for equality and about making opportunities for everyone the same. As a female guitarist, I have been overlooked in the past and disregarded and I’ve often felt invalidated and seen as not as good as my male peers. I also recalled being robbed of opportunities in school and begging for a chance to play something more technical and difficult but the parts I would ask for were always given to an older male teacher without me having a shot at trying them.”

PinkFiz represents female empowerment and the songwriters pride in being an independent female artist and producer. With the hopes to make listeners feel invincible and capable of anything, she hopes the empowering song will help listeners feel like they stomping on top of the world.

Here at Fromgirltogirl, we enjoy the catchy chorus of ‘Did I Ask?’ and appreciate the messaging of encouraging sexual consent. Although our society needs to enforce more policies and laws to protect women against sexual abuse and violence, we know we must keep the conversation going to make a better world for not only us but our future generations. We cannot stay silent.

Tenacious New Single: “Chameleon” by Seven Spies

Seven Spies band mates are a three-piece band consisting of David Blomiley (vocals, guitar, piano), Olly Brown (drums, backing vocals) and an ever-rotating bassist.

London childhood friends, Seven Spies, are a three-piece band ready to infiltrate the ears of the world. Consisting of David Blomiley (vocals, guitar, piano), Olly Brown (drums, backing vocals) and an ever-rotating bassist, music fans can expect to witness a healthy dose of melodic riffs and anthemic choruses because Seven Spies fuses the best of rock bands — such as Muse and Radiohead, while highlighting vocals reminiscent of Jeff Buckley and Bjork.

Their highly anticipated debut single “Chameleon” narrates the different faces, personas and behaviour we put on to negotiate our daily lives in different situations and the pressure people place on themselves to hide their struggles and internal demons to the outside world. Sonically the chorus shows a defiance against these pressures, external and internal, saying in the end they won’t overwhelm or control who or how we want to be.

Self-produced by Blomiley and Brown in their bedroom studio and mastered by John Davis (The Killers, Lana del Rey, Royal Blood, Lewis Capaldi, Gorillaz) at Metropolis Studios, “Chameleon” delivers an intimate, yet polished result. Featuring gritty, raucous guitars, tenacious melodies and textured harmonies, showcasing Blomiley’s impressive vocals, “Chameleon” is an energetic release, bursting with both conviction and charisma.  Listen now to “Chameleon.”

Now playing: Daep by Yaysh | Hip Hop

It’s a New Year and a great time to update music playlists with fresh tracks. A single for your listen is ‘Daep’ from pop/ hip hop artist Yaysh who themes her song on self-belief, sexuality, swag, and spiritual depth. In addition to the new single, she plans to release a series of singles, videos, and EPs in 2018 – Fromgirltogirl will definitely keep an eye out on this musical chameleon and LGBTQ rights advocate.

Her new single, “Daep” means beautiful in Vietnamese and consist of a low tempo dance song created from a freestyle. Daep is available now on Spotify. Yaysh sounds like Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliot, Pink, Fergie, and Iggy Azaelea.

About Yaysh

Whether you are a hip hop head, a pop snob or a LGBTQ adovocate, you will fall in love with Yaysh’s style. Not only does she sing and rap, but she also has a message: Society is basically good.

Asked to describe herself she replied with a grin: “Well..if Kanye West and Adele had a baby…I would be that baby..and Drake would be my cousin.”

Coining herself as a hybrid artist, she is both meditation yogi and music artist. She writes all her own music and is genuine to who she is. Yaysh is an avid meditation practitioner and student in Shambhala Buddhism and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

Hailing from Colorado, Yaysh mainly grew up in Denver as a rebellious youth. Later she went to explore the world of music and freestyle on her lonesome as the music provided a way for her to express her angst and emotional depth as well as process her previous life of rebellion, moving to LA to work with a few music producers that lead to her main Troy “R8dio” Johnson (credits: Solange, Chris Brown, Why Don’t We).

“R8dio and I had a vibe. That is all I gotta say. That man is talented and he is also my friend. I am so thankful that we met. We are both spiritual people who live in this worldly world and we both make amazing music. Combined we are incredible.” From there the story continues.

Now Playing: Belle VEX ‘Make It Good For Her’

BelleVex Make It Good for Her lyrics

Spring is in the air; summer is around the corner. That means news music is ready for your consumption, including indie pop artist Belle Vex with his new music video ‘Make It Good for Her.’ After the release and excellent reception of his EP, ’15 Minutes of Fame,’ this track will please fans and pop fanatics as it enraptured listeners with an appealing vocal hook and flawlessly matches the percussive, and heavy bass-oriented arrangement (compliments of Ryan Kienle from Matchbook Romance), to seamlessly evolve into an all-out dance anthem set to infiltrate radio waves and dance floors worldwide.

What we like about Belle Vex is his boy next door all grown up appeal combined with his beguiling electronic rock-pop – a perfect anecdote to his palpable cynicism. He sings with his heart-on-his-sleeve, making music fans feel content and feet moving to the beat.

Belle Vex also recently voiced a video game character for an upcoming release. With over 9,000 combined followers on Twitter and Instagram, Belle Vex has the hooks and the looks to break through within Indie Nation. Imagine a combination of the bouncy 90′s style of pop vocals with a touch of a punk rock attitude and combine them with contemporary EDM grooves. That’s the sort of ambiance listeners get when listening to Belle Vex’s much anticipated hit, “Make It Good For Her.” He also showed off his acting abilities as a TV Host on a show called, “How the World Works,” this video teaches viewers how to get the woman you want and how to mutually benefit from each other’s presence.

Headshot from BelleVex

Dripping with irony and a bit of reticent cynicism, this video imparts wisdom on the ironies and double standards in society, portraying a man changing his appearance and attitude that magically gets him the girl. This artfully crafted, fully realized, high quality video will have viewers tapping their feet, charmed by this sinister beat and Belle Vex’s starlit performance. Learn more BelleVex.com.
