R&B singer Sophia Habib

Dutch artist Sophia Habib has just released another new live performance video for “Lifeline.”

Here at Fromgirltogirl.com we love the R&B vibes of Sophia Habib. She includes a great storytelling narrative that is great for films or when you’re in your feelings. It’s the orchestra that brings out Lifeline by Sophia Habib!

Even when you don’t feel like going to a live concert event, you can enjoy live performance music with the better vocals.

Listen to Thank you by Sophia Habib! You’ll understand what we mean.

The track is off of her critically acclaimed EP, Fragile, which caught the attention of the likes of PAPER Magazine, Wonderland Magazine and Earmilk.

Sophia Habib is a singer, writer, performer and producer based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Delicately dancing between infectious pop, spellbinding R&B and silky neo-soul, Sophia’s music is a hypnotic blend of her love for the 00’s, along with smooth R&B vocals and a dark, melancholic tone taken from her classical piano background.

“Thank You is very simply a love story. It’s thanking someone for showing you what true love is and that you are worthy of receiving love.”

Having studied at the prestigious Rotterdam Conservatory of Music, her sound reaps a musical maturity and sophistication, while her honest themes touch on relatable, everyday life experiences. Breaking barriers and doing the unexpected, Sophia’s music exudes a subtle suspense and tension, allowing for surprises around each and every corner.

The new tracks showcase the artists incredible live skills and how classical music can accompany any music genre.

“To work with an orchestra was a dream I just had to fulfill. I called Anton de Bruin and asked if he wanted to do another collaboration with Cloud Orchestra.”

Directed by Eloi Genrich and Rebecca Weltner and filmed by Maric Dam, the three videos are shot in a beautiful, minimalist location, allowing for the focus to be on Sophia and the music, with no distractions. Shimmering with a vulnerability, warm golden hues blend with dark shadowy elements, adding further depth to the sound and the song’s narratives.

Now Playing: Welcome to Doc City (Deluxe Edition)

Doc City Welcome to Doc City
Sweetest Taboo is one of the best songs on the album.

Award-winning Musician and Producer Doc City new album “Welcome to Doc City (Deluxe Edition)” is out, taking listeners on a R&B, Pop-Jazz, and the lyricism ranges from social issues to deeply human themes of love and loss, with ample dashes of philosophy. There is spiritually charged energy in his music.

Doc City is the musical alias of Clarence Taylor, MD. In addition to Doc City’s love for music, his years of experience as a medical doctor allows him an intimate view into the depths of humanity.

  • Billboard Top 10 Contemporary Jazz charts for several months. In 1997 Capitol Records/ Blue Note Jazz recording artist, Pieces of a Dream, recorded a song he co-wrote on their album “Pieces.” Produced by George Duke and Jeff Lober.
  • Clarence received an Achievement Award in 1998 for Outstanding Song Composition in the International John Lennon Songwriters Competition.
  • Doc City was nominated as the Best R&B/Soul Band in the Cleveland Free Times Music Awards.

The collection of compositions featured on “Welcome to Doc City (Deluxe Edition)” leans heavily towards the immersive and profound, musing on the most important questions of life.

The entire album is uplifting, dense and thought-provoking.

Here at Fromgirltogirl.com we recommend this album for church events because it is undoubtedly music for soul-searching and contemplation. Leenie could have a little more soul but we like Aunt Winnie’s voice, it’s the best song on the album. Looking forward to BCTV revamp when Princess Diana’s daughter Briana and her sons reinvest in it in USA and Euroasia. They bring the flavor to church music and current music trends.

The 12-song album includes:

  • “Sweetest Taboo,” a cover of Sade’s classic jazz, gospel, rock and rap influences.
  • “What Love Is,” the refrain of unconditional love.
  • The soulful “No Goodbyes,” written after the loss of his best friend.
  • “I’ll Still be There for You,” the spiritual-based composition of faith and commitment.
  • The retrospection of “Heart Just Won’t Give Up” and
  • The beautiful love ballad, “When You Are Near”
  • He then pivots to address social/political issues on “Did You Choose?” This song deals with the insanity of prejudice, bias, hate and bullying.
  • The funky upbeat gospel-like “Your Ego Too,” addressing narcissism and the twisted delusional perspective of one’s over-importance of self.

Doc City has performed with highly esteemed musicians on his live album who have collectively played with Herbie Hancock, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks, Gloria Estefan, Trisha Yearwood, The Winans, Paul Simon, Peter Frampton, The Dazz Band, Dolly Parton, Anita Baker, Parliament Funkadelic, Alison Krauss, Yo Yo Ma and Nancy Wilson.

Reviewer Charles Lull writes on BCTV:

“The enchanting feel can only be expressed through the music itself. It’s refreshing to hear something so pure of heart and passionate about the music behind it.”

‘Incredible’ -Phé | New R&B Music

Phé shows off black girl magic
Sultry. Raw. Honest. Check out contemporary R&B singer-songwriter Phé’s highly anticipated debut album CRISIS. The Vancouver born, Los Angeles based artist offers up a dose of soulful prowess, as her commanding vocals, combined with raw and honest lyrics, expose a realness that truly sets her apart from the crowd.

About Phé

Born and raised in East Vancouver, Phé fell in love with the arts at an early age, taking to the stage as a dancer, actress, and singer. Throughout high school, she attended the Sarah McLachlan School of Music where she took her first official voice lessons — exploring her voice and honing in on her skills as a performer. It wasn’t until Phé graduated from high school that she made the decision to officially pursue her career and post-secondary education in music. She attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she studied vocal performance, music business, and songwriting, developing her unique style and refining her songwriting skills.

Inspired by the strength of her childhood idols, and female powerhouses Erykah Badu, Sade, and Lauryn Hill, Phé began exploring her own artistry. Her debut EP CRISIS is the result of this musical exploration and a first look into Phé’s mind and world – as she details her experiences with falling in and out of love in the eight track EP. Touching on themes of love, heartbreak, female sexuality and sexual exploration, healing, mental health and self-empowerment, the stunning release takes an in-depth look at how Phé handled each new space she entered as she attempted to heal.

Here at Fromgirltogirl, we love that CRISIS is an honest and open exploration of self and sound at a time where a woman had to decide if she wanted to be a victim of heartbreak or use that discomfort as inspiration for growth.

Leading single ‘Incredible’ highlights Phé’s signature sound of feel-good, ambient neo-soul, featuring ethereal synthscapes, smokey vocals and seductive melodies. With a distinct coolness the songstress narrates the moment of falling in love for the very first time, despite believing that love was a fickle and fleeting thing. ‘About Us’ speaks to that moment when you can look back at a toxic relationship and see it for what it really was.

“It is my anthem of self-worth, self-realization and was my way of giving myself what I truly deserved — which was the freedom to move on and own the power of loving myself ”, confides Phé. Showcasing a sassy 90’s R&B vibe, ‘About Us’ is a declaration of self-empowerment, casting away the relationships that no longer serve us in an act of self-love.
Phé hopes that her music will allow others to feel connected and give them a mirror through which they can see and understand themselves and their experiences. The singer declares, “It’s really important for young people to be able to see themselves reflected back in the media and popular culture. It makes them feel understood and shows them that they are part of something greater than themselves. I think everyone deserves to be seen and heard”. Having received critical acclaim from outlets such as NPR and The 405, as well as her 80’s inspired ballad, ‘Feel You’ gaining over 93 thousand streams on Spotify and ‘About Us’ having been featured on Spotify’s Just Vibing playlist, Phé is ramping up for the release of CRISIS currently available worldwide.
