Most Popular Diet Plans in the US- revealed
Across the United States of America (USA), people have been looking for ways to lose weight. The most popular diet plans have been compiled by Total Shape – these were the most searched diet plans in the USA in 2022.
Keto Diets were the most popular in 2022 with 97% of the American total searches focused on Golo Diet Plans and most of the total searches all from the keto and 7-day diet plan for weight loss.

Keto Diets were the most searched for by Americans in the last 12 months. The diet encourages low carbohydrate intake but increases fat intake. It makes the body enter a ketosis state which burns fat and uses it as energy.  The diet plan is popular worldwide with an average of 156,000 searches taking place each month.

Americans made up 33% of the searches with a substantial 52,000 searches. The Mediterranean diet plan came in second with an average of 20,000 searches each month in the US. The diet doesn’t follow any strict rules, but encourages fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes and healthy fats while restricting processed foods, added sugars and refined grains.

Though less than half the number of people searching for keto diets searched for Mediterranean diets, Americans made up for 77% of the worldwide 26,000 searches showing it’s substantially more popular in America than anywhere else.

Making up 65% of the worldwide average monthly searches of 23,000, Americans searched for diabetic diet plan 15,000 times each month. Not too dissimilar to the Mediterranean diet, a diabetic diet requires a limit on refined grains and added sugars. The second highest proportion of searches to come out of America was for the carnivore diet. 87% of the total 15,000 searches came from Americans.

The 13,000 Americans who searched for the diet would have found that a carnivore diet is extremely restrictive and only allows people to eat animal products like meat, fish, eggs and some dairy. At the halfway mark we reach a military diet. The diet is one that actually has nothing to do with the military and instead focuses on a three-day calorie deficit. It’s thought to be one that can help a person lose weight fast. 10,000 of the 16,000 monthly average searches came from Americans. The dash diet was searched by an average of 10,000 people each month in the US; 71% of all searches. Standing for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, the dash diet is thought to help people reduce high blood pressure.

A 7-day diet plan was searched for an average of 32,000 times worldwide. Americans made up 28% of that with 9,000 searches coming from the US. Despite only 1,000 fewer searches compared to the dash diet, Americans made up a much smaller proportion of the 7-day diet plan search due to a much higher worldwide search. This was the second most searched diet plan globally after the keto diet. Up next is a low-carb diet.

Used as a blanket term for a range of diets that limit carbohydrate intake, it came up in eighth place with just 7,500 Americans searching for it each month on average. Just under half the total worldwide search, 47% of Americans would have found out that some of the other diet plans on our list, including the keto diet and Mediterranean diet, are included in the low-carb bracket.

Arguably the most well-known low-carb diet some decades ago, the Atkins diet came in at ninth. Named after Dr Robert C. Atkins, who wrote about weight loss in his best-selling book in 1972, the Atkins diet was searched for on average 6,800 times by Americans. This was 62% of the global 11,000 average searches. Finally, bringing up the rear is the golo diet. The diet, created by a company and named after the motto “Go Lose Weight,” which was searched for by an average of 6,600.

This was the highest proportion of American searches compared to any of the searches with just 6,800 searches worldwide, meaning that only 200 further searches for the golo diet came from the rest of the world. A spokesperson for Total Shape said:

“People are constantly trying to lose weight and keep it off, but it’s fascinating to see which diets are the most popular.  “

Keto diets does not appear to be slowing down any time soon, both in the U.S. and the rest of the world.

The Dash Diet is an interesting development as well. While it’s not great so many people have high blood pressure – according to the CDC, nearly half of American adults suffer from high blood pressure – it’s positive to see that so many are proactively looking for a diet to suit them.”

New Study: District of Columbia No. 3 Best Place to Indulge on Thanksgiving

sliced turkey
Infographic on American overall health during the holidays.
new study found District of Columbia (D.C.) is the No. 3 healthiest place in America. If you are in D.C. for the holiday, this is welcoming news for those who want to go up for seconds on Thanksgiving.

The holidays are the perfect time to eat, drink, and be merry but Americans should be mindful not to fall off the wagon completely. Excessive drinking, eating, stress, and travel causes more emergency room visits, and a 4% increase in cardiac deaths from holiday heart attacks. Life Extension today released a study on the Healthiest States This Holiday Season after analyzing eight key metrics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spanning diet, exercise, alcohol intake, and mental health in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Key findings that led to District of Columbia’s No. 3 ranking show 86.1% of adults are in good overall health, 51.6% have good mental health, 83.8% exercise regularly, 83.6% eat vegetables daily, 8.4% are heavy drinkers and 9.8% smoke.

The 10 healthiest states are Utah, Massachusetts, D.C., Connecticut, Maryland, Hawaii, Illinois, Colorado, New Hampshire, and New Jersey.

3 Tips to Indulge Intelligently This Thanksgiving

1) Swap Decadent Dishes for Healthier Version: Enjoy all the flavors but watch your portion size and swap some decadent dishes for healthier versions. For example, oat cookies instead of sugar cookies, or mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes.

2) Do Not Skip the Thanksgiving Turkey:  Some people stay away from turkey because they think it makes them tired – this is a myth! It is the overeating and heavy carbs in side dishes causing the post-meal food coma. In fact, the tryptophan in turkey offers multiple health benefits, particularly when it comes to improving your mood.

3) Do Not Eat Your Emotions: Spending time with family on Thanksgiving can be stressful which leads to overeating. To offset culinary excess, exercise regularly, take herbal supplements that promote weight loss, and eat healthy snacks throughout the day.

7 Great Weight Loss Tips for 2020

Weight Loss Soup

1. Taking an “alcoholiday”

One of the best ways to lose weight is cutting out or cutting back on your alcohol intake. Chemically alcohol is the same as sugar. When you drink alcohol, it sets off the same insulin resistance as sugar, which leads to weight gain. A glass of Mojito or Chardonnay contains plenty of calories, and the drinks do not have any nutritional benefits.

Give alcohol beverages a break for about six weeks. See it as an “alcoholiday”. If you find it hard to give up, then consider a wine spritzer. You should also make sure that you drink water after each alcoholic beverage. You should also watch how much you drink when it comes to the mixers (OJ can easily double the calories in your vodka shot).

2. Choosing carbs with care

When you consume highly refined carbs- these are the processed white carbohydrates that form the basis of most meals and snacks – your blood sugar levels will spike and result in the production of insulin by the pancreas. This will then cause fat to accumulate and also protect against its depletion. You should replace the fast-release carbs with slow-burning and unrefined carbs such as brown basmati rice, jumbo oats, stone-ground wholemeal bread. These small changes are going to have a big impact.

3. Fighting the 50/50s

Humans have the cravings for energy-dense fat-sugar combination, but from studies and research that have been done, eating foods that have 50:50 of sugar and fat is going to interfere with the body’s self-regulation mechanisms. This means the body is not able to switch off the way it would have if you had consumed either of them alone. This ratio does not occur in nature, but it has become normal because of the treats people love: donuts, cheesecake, and fudge brownies. When you go shopping, make sure you have removed such foods from your list for some time.

4. Cruising the Med

The people of the Mediterranean know a thing or two about eating healthy. For six weeks, try filling your diet with foods rich in vegetables, nuts, whole-grains, low-fat dairy, and lean protein, just like our Italian cousins do.

5. Sticking with soup

Soup is effective when it comes to suppressing hunger. This is because they contain a combination of liquids and solids that will bust hunger. You should consider having soup before you eat because it will help you in consuming fewer calories than eating a meal without drinking soup first. You can also replace your lunch sandwich with a veg-based soup – you will end up lowering calories and carbs consumed while increasing your vegetable intake.

6. Implementing the Rule of Three-Quarters

This is a simple rule that you will have an easier time sticking to it. It will help you eat the right way without having to count much. All you need to do is make vegetables 75% of your meal and the other 25% can be meat and carbs. When you do this, you will make meat and carbs play a support role while your vegetables become the star performers. There are many places online where you can find veggie meals that follow this rule. Go through the recipe and choose one that you think will work for you.

7. Going on portion patrol

One mistake many people make is thinking that the portion that they have been served is the right amount for them – even though it has been shown that the portion sizes in food outlets and restaurants have increased in the past two decades. People usually eat 92% of the food they serve themselves, so try serving a little less. It is common for most people to eat until the plate is done. You should be focusing on downsizing. Consider using a smaller plate.
