‘American Ghost Stories’ : 20th century music meets 21st century alternative

American Ghost Stories 2015

‘American Ghost Stories’. I look at the album cover to see a beyond creepy porcelain doll with a cracked skull. I’m curious to hear the album so I press play. I’m big on sound effects so I really enjoy the sound effects at the beginning of each music track — thunder, a gun reload, and more. One of my favorite tracks on the ‘American Ghost Stories’ album is ‘Double Cross.’ There is just something about the guitar and the story telling about a woman hunting a man, which sucks me into the song. The album consists of 14 tracks and there is not one song to skip over. There’s an unique story on each music track, which I love about the album.

Anytime I listen to any album, I think on how much the album goes into the personality of the artist. Matthew Bonazzoli has written, performed and recorded music for more than 25 years. He studied voice to perfect his technique and it’s noticeable throughout the album. Matthew Bonazzoli’s talent combined with pianist Patrick Thompson really makes the album stand out on its own. Thompson is known for his creativity as a rag time pianist. Both men share an interest in 1940’s swing and really enjoy impromptu jam sessions together. They formed The Bonazzoli Band in 2009 to wrap the best of the 20 century music into an incredible new sound. In the album American Ghost Stories you will hear a mix of rock, pop, modern rock and swing from the 20th century, while reinforcing swing and roots influences. What I really enjoy about the album American Ghost Stories is the attention to detail and how well they blend country, swing, rock, blues and even gospel into a unique sound. Combine those details with the story telling of romance, detective drama and ghost stories, and you find your self with a real treat. The band is sticking to their slogan, “The best of 20th Century Music wrapped into a 21st Century alternative.”

The album attracts people young and old. I look forward to what The Bonazzoli Band has in store for 2016. Right now they are in the studio recording a third album of a completely original material set. Follow the Bonazzoli Band on Facebook to keep up with their latest music. Watch ‘Taking Chances’ and Invicta ( one of my favorite tracks off American Ghost Stories) by The Bonazzoli Band below:
