How to keep money from ruining your relationship | Valentine’s Day

Natalie Nelson

Money is one of the most common topics couples argue about, but there may be more to it than meets the eye. Natalie Nelson, Energy Healing Educator & Program Developer for HealersLibrary.com, is here to give the scoop on how to keep money from ruining your relationship. Nelson, who is the daughter of renowned holistic physician Dr. Bradley Nelson, author of the bestselling book The Emotion Code and creator of The Body Code healing system believes some people don’t believe they can have both love and money, while others struggle with self-worth issues that lead to both money and relationship problems. This comes in the form of emotional baggage.

Experts agree that talking about your feelings around money and finances is the key to keeping it from becoming a relationship killer, but how?

Nelson recommends seeking to understand how your conflict resolution style impacts your relationships. The following sample questions you can ask and answer from her “Resonating Relationships” assessment – number each from 1 to 5 (with 1 being what most describes you) to determine your primary conflict resolution style:

What is your typical conflict resolution style?

  • Avoiding ___
  • Accommodating ___
  • Competing ___
  • Compromising ___
  • Collaborating ___

If you are in a relationship, have your partner also assess his or her style. “Our conflict resolution style impacts all our relationships,” Natalie says. “ Work toward always being a collaborator.”

Top Tips to Rock Your Lingerie with Confidence

  1. You are not alone. There is a huge number of women who lack confidence; it’s not just you. This is something that even famous, beautiful women struggle with and the first step to overcoming it is to recognize the issue and face it head on.
  2. You are not the problem. Your products are. According to a UK survey conducted by Simply Be, from a sample of 2,000 women ages 18 – 34, 55% reported feeling more confident in a perfectly fitting bra. Sadly though, 80% of women are not wearing the right size bra. How many women would be trying new bras and style if they had options that truly fit their figure, specifically designed to enhance their shape? Many more.
  3. Just go for it. In the end, you have to take a leap of faith. Start small and work your way up. You may not jump right to a thong, but maybe start with a new, exciting color or a sexy nightgown that flatters your body shape. Everyone’s comfort zone is different so do what’s doable for you but still bold enough to challenge you.

Love and Fashion: Reignite your marriage in 2017

223-psyche-terry-1-braoe

Do you need an expert on women’s fashion, health and beauty who is loving her marriage more than ever after 12 years? Fashion entrepreneur Psyche Terry whose new line of size 4 – 24 lingerie and sleepwear empowers women of many different sizes to feel confident and beautiful in their lives and relationships.

How will you reignite your marriage this year?

If you’re ready to make 2017 the year of true passion and connection in your relationship, wife, mother and fashion guru Psyche Terry has these tips to help you:

  1. Give yourself a confidence boost: There’s nothing more attractive than a woman who knows her own worth and lets in shine. Wear some sexy lingerie underneath your clothes for a day, just for you, and see how it makes you feel.
  2. Remember that your partner still sees you: Too often when we’ve been in partnership for a long time, we begin to dress, act and feel as though no one is really looking. Yes, this is a comfort zone of sorts, but if you’re trying to spark the flames of passion in your marriage, showing extra care in your appearance can be more of a boost than you might imagine.
  3. Connect on a spiritual level: Being able to experience love with your partner in the context of a shared spiritual connection can create a uniquely powerful level of intimacy and closeness. Laugh, play and pray together to round out the joy in your marriage.

Psyche shares, “You can be married, you can be a parent, you can be best friends with each other, you can be best friends with your kids, you can do all these things because you just love each other that much. Being a wife that’s willing to step it up a notch shows you are a woman who is willing to take care of herself, and that’s refreshing.”

Psyche Terry is the founder and CIO—Chief Inspiration Officer—of her company, UI Global Brands LLC, where her husband is also her business partner. Her new “Inspire Psyche Terry” line launched at select Macy’s stores, Macys.com and QVC.com in January 2017.

Women’s March paused and cheered for this Chicago couple on wedding day

During the Women’s March, recently married couple Allison Baker and Marko Milincic were not paying very much attention to the women’s marches taking place around the globe. It was, after all, their wedding day. However, after getting stuck in traffic six blocks from where they were to meet their wedding photographer, Jai Girard, the couple decided to brave the march.

In an interview with Yahoo Style, Baker explained what happened next. “Once we stepped out the door everyone was clapping and cheering,” she said, “They parted the march for us and then they started surrounding us. They started chanting, ‘Love wins!’ and ‘Love trumps hate!’ It was all about love and acceptance.” Read the full interview ‘The Women’s March paused and cheered for a Chicago couples wedding pics.’

The bride, Allison Baker on her wedding day thoughts

The whole day was way more than we could have ever hoped for. I’ve never participated in a protest, but the protest participated in my wedding.

Jai Girard on working with the bride

  • Working with the bride: “I’ve had so many brides and grooms that wouldn’t even let their dress touch the hotel carpeting, let alone go outside. This bride was literally walking six blocks down Monroe Avenue without one complaint, with her hair flying everywhere.”
  • Her top advice for the wedding day: “Instead of getting upset about what was happening, you’ve just got to make it work for you — and have the courage to do it.”

Valentine’s Day: Love & Money quiz – How do you score?

Pamela Yellen Valentines Day Financial Tips for Couples

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and Fromgirltogirl has tips for how couples can boost their financial as well as their emotional and physical intimacy from two-time New York Times bestselling author and financial security expert Pamela Yellen. Read below:

Greater Communication & Trust Around Money = More Intimacy

Couples who improve their communication around finances are more likely to have better sex, as Pamela notes in this Chicago Tribune column. Having spent years conducting research and surveys on how money affects relationships, Pamela shares these statistics:

  • Financial stress causes problems in almost 70% of relationships.
  • 31% of respondents said they have kept spending secrets from each other
  • Almost half of couples never discussed finances before committing to the relationship
  • Arguments about money can throw a wet blanket on sex lives
  • 20% of couples say they would have sex more frequently if they had more money

Pamela’s tips to help couples improve their communication around money

  1. Recognize that money is an emotional issue: Choose a time when you’re both relaxed and not rushed to start talking about money issues.
  2. Regularly discuss finances together: Set goals together, and track your progress.
  3. Agree on how to divide your money: Topics to cover include individual discretionary spending, household expenses, retirement savings, and extended family responsibilities.
  4. Avoid taking on too much debt: Instead of constantly talking about the burden of your debt, focus on your financial goals — where you’d really like to be, and how you’ll get there. Facing your debt as a team can actually strengthen your relationship.
  5. Never engage in financial infidelity – If you haven’t been fully honest regarding finances, now is the time to clean it up! Begin by stating “Our relationship is important to me, so I want to make sure we have a foundation of honesty about our finances.” No matter what comes up, stay calm, and avoid judgment, and focus on positive solutions.
  6. Understand and acknowledge your different spending habits – Seek to understand rather than correct each other. If something in your partner’s attitude bothers you, tell him how you feel and why. See if you can find compromise.

Want to learn how your relationship stacks up when it comes to financial intimacy? Take Pamela’s Love and Money Financial Self-Assessment here. It only takes a few minutes.

Do men like when women make the first move?

Should women make the first move for dating?

It’s a question contemplated time and time again: should women make the first move when it comes to dating and relationships? Do men wait for women to make the first move? The dating site Cupid.com polled 891 single men to find out what men think about first moves from women. Here is what men really think:

Should women make the first move for dating?

The poll results are shocking to Fromgirltogirl. Often growing up women learn from fathers and other male figures to wait for a guy to make the first move and instead invite/ welcome him to get to know you better. Have the rules changed? Or have they always been this way? We would love to hear from women who have made the first move and entered a long-term relationship or better yet a marriage that started with you as the woman making the first move. Rarely have we’ve seen relationships that started with the woman pursuing the man successfully go for the long haul. We feel that a man who truly wants a woman will find the encourage not only to pursue her but also show her he is a man worthy of her time and effort in a health relationship. Curious  how many women feel being less mysterious to draw a man in really is a great strategy for finding true love. Can you find true love on Cupid.com? Will the guy you’ve eyed in the coffee shop say yes to date night if you make the first move? Only time will tell. Like Fromgirltogirl on Facebook and let us know your thoughts on the topic.

How to remove emotional baggage that keeps you from finding lasting love

Many singles dread Valentine’s Day with its focus on couples in love, spawning such “anti-Valentine’s” observances as #SinglesAwarenessDay. While many people are single by choice or reject the cloying, commercial aspects of Valentine’s Day, countless others yearn to find a loving partner but find themselves unable to form or sustain lasting relationships. Veteran holistic physician Dr. Bradley Nelson to explain how emotional baggage from the past can form a “Heart-Wall™” that keeps people from love, and how removing this block can help them find lasting love.

3 Steps to Dismantle a Heart-Wall

Whether due to a bad breakup, divorce, death of a partner or past life events that have had a negative impact on our ability to open up to and trust others, anyone can have a Heart-Wall and not even be aware of it, Dr. Nelson Bradley says. When our heart is closed to love, it can prevent us from forming new relationships, block us from experiencing love in our current relationships and leave us feeling isolated and alone. Here are three steps to dismantling a Heart-Wall from the world-renowned healer who coined the term for what has been called “the most important discovery in the history of energy medicine.”

  1. Realize your heart may not be open to love in spite of all you do or have done. “A Heart Wall is made up of trapped emotional energy,” Dr. Nelson Bradley says. “If you experience an emotion that is very powerful – grief or depression or anger or resentment, whatever it is, if it is powerful enough the energy of that emotion can become trapped in the body and cause problems for you later in life in all kinds of ways.”
  2. Acknowledge that you have a Heart Wall from past trauma.“Sometimes we need to protect our hearts, so trapped emotions are added layer by layer like the layers of an onion. It is a protective mechanism to keep our heart from being hurt or totally broken. Each trapped emotion forms one layer in the heart-wall; each is unique and different.”
  3. Take steps to get rid of your Heart Wall. Dr. Bradley Nelson explains steps for identifying and releasing the negative emotions that form Heart Walls:
  • The trapped emotions that form a Heart Wall are inaccessible until a person acknowledges that he or she has a Heart Wall.
  • A Heart-Wall can be revealed by asking the person’s subconscious mind.
  • Once revealed, trapped emotions become recognizable to the subconscious mind and vulnerable to being released.

Holiday engagements and ring trends on the rise for 2017

gleem.co engagement rings

Engagement season is in full swing and retailers are seeing new trends emerging around holiday engagement ring purchases. Last year, there was a rise in vintage estate rings and unique colored stones. This year the diamond is returning – and bigger than ever – and people are feeling more and more comfortable buying online. Gleem & Co., a luxury online jewelry consignment and curator, sees a 200-300% jump in sales during the holiday and proposal months. Gleem curates a custom collection for their clientele and has noticed a few new trends for one of life’s most important (and expensive) purchases:

  • Diamonds are Forever: Solitaire diamonds are making a comeback, as colored center stones become less and less common
  • Size Matters: Two carats is the new baseline, and people are willing to sacrifice clarity for size
  • Gold over Platinum: As people wear and tear their rings more during their spin cycle, pilates class and everything else in life – white gold is coming back as a more durable alternative to platinum
  • Make a Statement: Women want their engagement ring to be a statement piece – vintage and estate ring sales remain high
