Condom crazy: Elementary students given condoms at school!

By Briana Booker

Now, I do not condemn protective sex,but I find something disturbing about elementary children potentially engaging in sex. I did not start thinking about being attracted to another person until late middle school. Is it really a good idea to give condoms to kids that are just learning to ride a bicycle or count to 100?

At Veterans Memorial Elementary, as of fall 2010, Kindergartens through Fifth graders will have the right to obtain condoms through the school health center! Condoms are officially allowed to all students regardless of age. And the most alarming feature of this is that parents will not be informed if their children request condoms.

I understand anyone can have sex,but are these kids ready for the good and bad consequences of engaging in sex? Will sexual education in elementary school be more effective?

Sex can be fun, with the right person, but that age group should be more concerned in reading, science and math.

You have a lifetime to have sex. Anyone can have sex(it is not rocket science). There is no way a Fifth grader or below grade school age group would be ready to take on the responsibilities of sexual health or early pregnancy.

This society is already sex crazed enough. I personally do not want to see a third grader sitting next to me waiting for the gynecologist to see her. Go play hop scotch!

Childhood should be a time for self-exploration, and not in the form of sex. You only get one childhood. And to be honest, this economy and social society are rough enough. I can barely afford to take care of myself. How would an elementary school child be able to juggle the cost of health and emotional endeavors that can happen when becoming sexually active?

Let us work on giving them a good foundation on education, and when middle school years come around, let us start giving them condoms.

Here is the video .
