About KrigarèKrigarè ( Kree-Gar-Uh ): the Swedish translation for WARRIOR. Krigarè is known for her strong imagery with intense storytelling lyrics. Her electronic driven melodies, weighted with textured guitars, takes listeners on a cinematic journey of emotions, battles, and empowerment.
Krigarè first got her start in the music industry backing the piano for Kelly Clarkson at the Grammy Awards. Since then, she has learned to carve her own path by breaking into the licensing world of cinematic/pop.
With multiple songs licensed for film and television as well as collaborations with artists from around the world, Krigarè is making her way and leaving her mark.
With her newest album release titled “KRIGARÈ”, Krigarè tells her compelling stories of surviving two different cancers all by the age of 18.

“My life has been full of battles these last three years. It has been by far the most challenging years not only as a person, but also as an artist. I’ve had to my voice again, and decide on who I am coming out of trying times. I am a WARRIOR!”

Although well experienced in acting with credits ranging from independent film projects, the Running and Plates, to major network TV appearances in Crossing Jordan, I’m With Her and Majors & Minors, Krigarè’s first love has always been music. At the tender age of 8, Krigarè played the piano at the 2006 Grammy Award Ceremony for Kelly Clarkson’s performance of “Because of You”. Krigarè also played the lead role in the video version of the same song, and has appeared in other videos for Jarrod Neimann, Tenth Ave. North and Chris Folsom.

Since moving to Nashville from Los Angeles, Krigarè was introduced to song-writing at a very early age. She has had the honor of co-writing with Grammy winning top 10 chart writers such as Matt Squire, Andy Dodd and Jessi Alexander.

Recently, Krigarè has co-written and collaborated with L.A. future/pop band NeoNoir for “On the Hunt”, and with the Dutch hard style band Ecstatic for “Dead to Life”, both currently with over 200k streams on Spotify. Her song “Falling Apart” was selected in the 2017 Nashville Film Festival, and “Destiny” written with Generdyn was licensed for the lm All I See is You starring Blake Lively. Krigarè has been MTV’s featured artist with her songs “Let Go” and “This Time” being heard on MTV’s Teen Mom OG and Siesta Key. And the songs “This Time”, “Thunder”, “Never Stop” and “Falling Apart” have all been heard on Teen Mom Young + Pregnant. Recently, Krigarè has collaborated with Zayde Wølf, Generdyn, Joseph Trapanese of The Greatest Showman, and Grammy winner Jason Halbert creating a new cinematic/pop sound for her newly released album titled “KRIGARÈ”.

Because Krigarè has grown up in the music business with her Grammy award winning father, she has been around some of the most influential artists and musicians, and several have even joined her on many of her projects. Krigarè’s single “HEROES” featured Brian “Head” Welch of KØRN on guitars and Lester Estelle of Pillar on drums. Charles Esten, of the hit television show “NASHVILLE”, has performed with Krigarè at the LLS Light the Late Night fundraiser for 3 years, and Kelly Clarkson has featured Krigarè in her Miracle on Broadway Christmas fundraiser.

Unfortunately, Krigarè’s rise to success came to a halt when at age 16 she received news that she had stage IV Thyroid cancer, and then only six months later was diagnosed with stage I Melanoma. To be diagnosed with two completely different cancers at such a young age was devastating.

Instead of letting this news take her down, Krigarè made the impossible decision to become the true definition of her name WARRIOR, and fight to win these battles no matter what it took. After three surgeries, and much time spent in vocal therapy and exercise, Krigarè has risen from this tragedy redefining her herself. It’s that same drive, determination and passion that fuels her music today.

New music: ‘Virtual’ – Arms Akimbo

Arm Akimbo photo shoot for ew music cover Virtual
It’s Friday and Fromgirltogirl has a new single, ‘Virtual’ to share with you from viral Spotify indie rock outfit Arms Akimbo. The four-piece band has found success touring with Walk The Moon, The Animals and Said The Whale.
The single ‘ Virtual’ is about social media and how our generation’s most prevalent form of communication these days is commenting. Peter Schrupp reveals, “we’re no exception to the rule. After a while you just need to reconnect. After a while you miss your friends. This song illustrates that desire to shake yourself and the people around you awake.”

About Arms Akimbo

Arms Akimbo is a maddening series of clichés that manage to form something  truly original. They met in  college and released a self-produced EP (Vignettes)  that  found  quick  success in their Los Angeles hometown. Since then, Arms Akimbo’s Peter Schrupp, Christopher Kalli, Matthew Sutton and  Colin  Boppell  have  tapped  into  that post-college-now-wtf vein of hope, insecurity and fuck it, let’s just enjoy this with their  most recent EP The Wrong Kind Of Dance Party.
The  EP  slowly exposes  us to the moments in college where  we end  up  at  the  end  of  the  night,  sitting  with our  best  friends  in the  driveway  and  wondering  what  the  point  of  life is. Whatever  it  is,  the  band  has  hit  a  nerve.  Maybe  it’s  that  never  ending  nag  that  this  time in  life  is  fleeting,  that  responsibility  is  knocking  hard  on  the  door. At the end of the day, we are living in  an increasingly unpredictable world, the only thing we can count on are good friends and the  moment.

New music: Golden Soul – Polartropica

Ladygunn of Polartropica shows off tiger umbrella
Happy new music Friday! We have a new music video for you from whimsical space pop/psych artist Polartropica entitled ‘Golden Soul.’ The single uses *J-Pop characteristics*, with shimmering dreamlike vocals to create an *electro-pop* anthem. The video details interior struggles and how, with compassion for one another and understanding our differences, there can be healing.  Polartropica has been profiled in media outlets such as Huffington Post, LA Weekly and LADYGUNN. Watch her music video ‘Golden Soul’ below:

About Polartropica

Polartropica is the music endeavor of Los Angeles based, whimsical space-pop artist, Ihui (eeway) Cherise Wu. She was born in Taiwan but raised in California. Wu successfully combines quirky pop melodies, futuristic synths, and classical string arrangements, to create a genre of bubblegum psychedelia.

Polartropica derived after Wu heard a song which couldn’t be defined by a genre – ‘Polartropic’ by Mark Foster. Admiring  the contrast between both ‘polar’ and ‘tropical’, Wu decided to formulate a place where things can exist where they don’t belong. Polartropica fuses elements of complete opposites together with the outcome resulting in a unique, ethereal sound that defies all sonic worlds. Using both organic and synthetic instruments, Wu conceived a visionary dream world for listeners to escape. It’s marvelous. Wu professes, “I wanted to create a healing, inspiring and empowering space with just the right amount of disco-party!”

Integrating 90’s pop, classical arrangements and intergalactic space-pop, Polartropica is guaranteed to feed your imagination, with eccentric and distinguished sound.

Shoegaze rock Americana artist Sam Valdez has a new single out entitled ‘Funeral.’ You may have heard Valdez latest single ‘Farther Away’ because it has been garnering NPR play on tastemaker KCRW and features ethereal vocals, western soundscapes, and shimmering shoegaze melodies.

Listen to ‘Funeral‘ – Sam Valdez

About Sam Valdez

Sam Valdez is a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter, whose music is built upon the fusion of shoegaze and vintage Americana indie folk. Embodying the best of both genres, Valdez has created dreamy, yet haunting atmospheric soundscapes that resonate with her listeners. She grew up at the edge of the Nevada desert, in Las Vegas and credits the desert as a major influence in her writing and composing. The vastness and solitude of desert life is apparent throughout her writing, with cinematic resonance and euphoric arrangements.
After performing in numerous bands, Valdez found the essence of her solo sound and decided to run with it, indulging in her own creative process and ultimately developing a sound that is true to her own. As a classically trained violinist, Valdez has a sense of musical maturity within her songs, adding technicalities that bring her to the forefront of her genre. Now playing: ‘Secret Admirer’ by Barbudo

Barbudo releases single Secret Admirer

The highly anticipated single, ‘Secret Admirer‘ from Nu-eyed funk group, Barbudo is here and drenched in funk-fuelled melodies, shimmering vocal harmonies, and groove-laden basslines. Let’s just say, this band is worth the watch.

Listen to Secret Admirer now

About Barbudo

Barbudo is a British ‘Nu-eyed funk’ group from the south coast town of Havant, Portsmouth. Fusing elements of old-school funk, psych rock and smooth R&B, brothers Ben and Harry Stanworth, along with Elliot Salter have established an intoxicating sound which oozes charm and flamboyancy. Taking inspiration from the pioneers of 70’s funk, soul and disco, as well as acts such as Steely Dan, Shuggie Otis and The Isley Brothers, Barbudo have concocted a sound equal parts contemporary with yesteryear’s glow. This blend has given the band a distinct sound that has won over audiences across the nation.

“We were going go for latin-infused funk vibe, like a blend of Michael Jackson and Santana” explains Ben. Thematically ‘Secret Admirer’ is a tongue in cheek interpretation of having guilty pleasures.

“It’s a playful confession of secretly liking something that is deemed ‘uncool’ by most people. You might not publicly admit to liking it, but beyond judging eyes you see it for what it is. Like listening to Coldplay when you are sad…”, reveals Harry.

DIY Magazine editor and record label executives recently chose Barbudo as the winner of ‘Record Store Day Unsigned’ competition for their video ’SXC’, resulting in an EP being pressed to vinyl and sold in stores nationwide.

Now playing: ‘The Yield’ by Kate Fenner

Kate Fenner, NYC folk/singer-songwriter, has a new music entitled ‘The Yield’ video as well as a new album, Middle Voice out.

Photos of Kate Fenner

About the album Middle Voice

“Middle Voice” is a vital snapshot for Kate Fenner; the title, aside from being a grammatical term to describe a subject that is both an actor andacted-upon, both agent and patient, conjures up a voice both in the middle of its life, and in-between feelings about many things: love, purpose, illness, death. A kind of sweet and earned ambivalence towards life and art, Fenner describes:

Kate_Fenner_black_and_white_photo“I recorded the bed tracks for this album after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer and slated for surgery to remove it. This diagnoses itself came after a fallow period of illness and getting sober. I had started to write again, and wanted to capture my voice on tape in the event that something went awry in the surgery. Tony Scherr, my old friend, stepped up immediately; we recorded all the beds in less than three weeks in short 3-hr sessions while my son was in school. We later added overdubs and a couple newer songs, once my voice had healed” – Kate Fenner

About Kate Fenner

Kate Fenner is a Canadian musician, currently based in New York City. The New York Times describes her vocal stylings as having a “lusty, alternative, Joni Mitchell-ish sound”. She was one of the primary singers and songwriters for the Canadian alternative rock band Bourbon Tabernacle Choir in the 1980s and 1990s. After its dissolution, Fenner continued performing as a duo with her former Bourbon bandmate Chris Brown. In 2000, she toured and sang with Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip on the “Music @ Work” tour. Fenner released a solo album, Horses and Burning Cars, in 2003, followed by her second solo album, Magnet, produced by Chris Brown.

Fenner’s music was also featured on the soundtrack for the “Mystery On Fifth Avenue” Apartment project by the New York architecture firm 212box. “Salamandre”, co-written by her and Brown, was built around four melodies of inspiration through four centuries of music, including Renaissance, classical, Victorian, a Venetian waltz, jazz, ragtime, blues, folk, and funk. “Salamandre” was commissioned and curated as part of the “Mystery On Fifth Avenue” by architectural designer Eric Clough.

In December 2004, through January 2005, Fenner was invited to be the opening act for blues artist B.B. King on a tour through the American South, at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut, and at BB King’s in New York City.

At this time, Fenner also began to sing in several performance pieces for the visual artist Joan Jonas, among them “The Shape, the Scent, the Feel of Things”, originally commissioned by the Dia Beacon and subsequently performed around the world, “Reading Dante”, and “They Come to Us Without a Word”, which premiered at the Venice Biennale in 2015.

In November 2017, she released a third solo album, “Middle Voice”, followed with some performances. Fenner recorded it with long-time musical collaborator Tony Scherr. Musical contributors to the recording include Bill Frisell, Jason Moran, Norah Jones, Chris Brown, and Tony Scherr.
