[REVEALED] The jobs that make Americans wake up the earliest

Set your alarm clock to wake up black and white photo.

Morning routines are different from person to person. There are hundreds of factors that influence the time we go to sleep, we wake up, as well as the way we prepare for bed or the day ahead.

New insights from sleep experts Best Mattress Brand reveal that one of these factors is the job one does and more specifically the industry they work in, as well as their income and how happy they are with their jobs.

Average number of minutes people lie in bed after the alarm sounds

The industry you work with can and will be an influence on your need to lie in bed after the alarm sounds. Regardless of the times you need to be at work, you are going to set an alarm depending on how long it takes you to get up, get ready and get to your workplace. These times are often influenced by factors such as the stress one has to endure, the type of responsibility each person has and the way each one of us decides to face the day ahead.

People with more “lightweight” jobs in industries like Arts, Entertainment and Recreation are the ones who stay in bed the most at 14 minutes, while those who stay in bed the least seems to be working in more manual jobs such as Transportation and Warehousing (8 minutes), Homemaker (8 minutes), Construction (7 minutes) and Manufacturing (7 minutes).

Medical and Healthcare, Finance and Insurance and Technology all stand at an average of 11 minutes of lying-in bed after the alarm, while Government and Public Administration, Education and Wholesale and Retail workers take in average 10 minutes. Another factor that makes people lie in bed the most is the satisfaction towards their jobs, as those who are not less happy lie in bed the most (11 minutes), contrarily to those who are instead happy (9 minutes).

However, this is not a rule. How happy you are with your job might affect how long you might want to stay in bed, that’s not the number one reason people decide to lay in a bit more.

40% of men and women said that the one factor that influences how long they stay in bed is the temperature of the room, followed by 34% who named lighting as the reason, weather (10%) and the mattress quality (8%).

Average number of minutes it takes people to get ready in the morning

Another factor that can be influenced by the industry you work in is the time it takes you to get ready in the morning. This mostly depends on the environment one works in, as some jobs require more maintenance than others. Government and Public Administration workers take the longest to get ready (42 minutes), while those working in Transportation and Warehousing take the least (33 minutes). This can be explained by the nature of the two jobs, as people with public roles have most often a dress code they have to respect and their contact with the public means they need to carry themselves a certain way.

A spokesperson for Best Mattress Brand has commented on the findings:

“The data, which are the results from a survey conducted on 1,060 people, shows clearly that what you do for a living will influence your morning routine, and while these are not necessarily the number one reason for the way we act a certain way once awake, it is important to underline that to find similar patterns is very interesting, as it shines a light on the way our jobs are a huge part of our life even when we’re not a work.”

Most popular self-care activities by U.S. state [Study]

Woman hugs herself
United States of America Self-care rituals.
As we approach the holiday season, self-care is very important. Despite feeling burned out, almost 1 in 3 (31%) say they engage in more self-care activities during the holiday season. Check out this study on American self-care habits.

Self-care is becoming increasingly important in our everyday lives, and as we approach the winter season, self-care becomes even more vital.

What does self-care look like?

It can mean different things for different people, but what are some of the most popular self-care activities?

According to a new study from Within Health, the most common self-care activity across the United States is journaling. Other popular forms of self-care include exercise, yoga, taking a bath, and sleep.

Good news: 3 in 5 Americans feel like they have enough money and time to prioritize the self-care they need. On average, Americans are spending 6 hours each week engaging in self-care activities and spend about $90 monthly.

Over half (52%) of Americans say they feel more burned out during the holiday season, and 50% add that it can be hard to make self-care a priority during the holidays.

“As the holidays approach, give yourself the gift of self-care,” says Katie Piel, Primary Therapist with Within Health.

“Mindfulness is one quick way to give your mind and body a break during the whirlwind of the holidays and it doesn’t have to add extra time in your day. Engaging in mindfulness as self-care is an easy and free way to increase your peace and decrease your stress.”

Experts Reveal How To Look Well Rested With No Sleep

May be an image of 1 person, tree and outdoors

We all know that a good night’s sleep is vital to looking our best and being healthy but sometimes things happen and we end up running on empty for the day.

Dark and puffy eyes and sallow skin are tell-tale signs that you have had no sleep. Whether it’s due to illness, work stress or getting up at night to look after the kids, there are ways to look fresh even after a night of poor quality sleep.

We all have had days we have spent looking exhausted. Some of us pile makeup on.

Health experts at Amerisleep share five simple and natural tricks they use to look refreshed after a bad night’s sleep.

Drink powdered magnesium, or bathe in magnesium salts.

Not getting the recommended eight hours of sleep per night can lead to higher stress levels and inflammation. This will make your eyes look puffy and your skin look tired. Magnesium is an anti-inflammatory and anti-stress mineral. Magnesium has a natural antioxidant effect which aids oxygen uptake, electrolyte balance and energy production.

Add powdered magnesium citrate to a mug of hot water and sip throughout the day. It will help to reduce tiredness and fatigue, and will also help maintain healthy bones and muscles.

If you have more time, take a quick bath with magnesium salts. The salts will soothe your tired muscles, lowering inflammation and minimizing puffiness.

Apply a Quick Coffee Scrub

Drinking coffee is typically the go-to for the sleep deprived. The caffeine may perk you up for a while, but coffee has dehydrating effects which won’t help your skin.

At Fromgirltogirl.com we drink Oaza Cold Brew because it contains electrolytes.

Instead, why not make a simple coffee face scrub?

How to make a Coffee Face Scrub

Combine a cup of ground coffee and two tablespoons of sugar it’s best to use brown sugar as it is more gentle) then add enough coconut oil and mix until the scrub feels like wet sand. Then, gently scrub your face.

The coffee and sugar both act as exfoliants, which will help to rid your skin of dullness, while the caffeine will help get rid of dark under eye circles by causing the blood vessels to constrict. The scrub will last up to two months if stored properly in an airtight container ( must be located in a cool, dry place).

Hydrate, Exfoliate, and Massage

Start by drinking 20-30 ounces, or between 2.5 and 3.75 cups, of room temperature (or slightly chilled) lemon water. Water wakes up the body, flushes out toxins, and combats puffiness. In the shower, exfoliate with a gentle scrub to get rid of dullness by making the skin look bright and dewy.

If your skin still looks puffy, lightly massage the skin while applying a serum or moisturizer. Focus on moving the lymph fluid from the center of your face towards the periphery.

Curling your eyelashes will open your eyes up even more, and a bold lip color (i.e. fuchsia or red) will brighten up your face.

Splash Cold Water, Drink Green Tea

Splash your face with ice cold water. This will brighten your complexion and tighten your skin. Around your eyes, try applying a cream with green coffee extract or rosemary, which will help to de-puff and increase circulation.

Try drinking green tea rather than your morning coffee. Coffee has no health benefits and won’t hydrate you. Green tea is packed with antioxidants and will keep you hydrated. It also contains caffeine, just not as much as coffee does.

Dab organic grapefruit essential oil on your pulse points (wrist and neck), which studies show could cause people to perceive you as looking younger and fresher.

If you wear makeup, choose foundation instead of concealer. A light layer of foundation all over is the quickest and easiest way to look alive in one step, as this will even out your skin tone.

Reduce Swelling with a Cold Compress

The eyes are usually the first signs of a fitful night, followed by the skin.

To combat dullness, exfoliate and moisturize. A skin spritzer can help to wake up your skin and keep you looking fresh. It doesn’t matter whether you use a canned water mist or one from a skincare brand. The cool liquid can feel energizing, too.

For the eyes specifically, makeup will only go so far. If you have time in the morning, apply cool cucumber slices or wet tea bags. Green or black tea is best, because the caffeine helps, especially if the tea has been in the refrigerator before applying to your eyes. This will help ease swelling and increase blood flow.

Finally, a workout can help give you a boost, although if you’re tired it might be the last thing you want to do.

Being aware that my body is always working on supporting my physical health as well as healthy brain function, I wanted to work on improving my sleep environment and address sleep deficiency. Often I have pillows that are too soft or too sturdy. I find myself waking up in the middle night or my mind racing over worries or concerns I rather focus on during the day. How to achieve better sleep

Tips for Getting a Good Night's Sleep

Most people don’t get enough sleep, although good rest is essential for every aspect life. Your sleep habits not only impact the way you feel on any given day, they are implicated in your long-term health as well. In short, your physical, mental and emotional health all hinge on your nightly slumber. Because sleep is such an important aspect of your life, taking the time to learn how to improve your rest only makes sense.

If this sounds great, but you have no idea where to begin, check out these hot tips that will have you snoozing soundly in no time:

Check Your Habits At The Door

Although you might not be ready to give up alcohol, cigarettes, and caffeine right now, you should make sure that you aren’t consuming these products prior to bedtime. The nicotine in tobacco and tobacco products is a stimulant, which can hamper your ability to fall asleep. You can find caffeine in the usual offending beverages, chocolate and some over-the-counter pain medications because it speeds up the pain relief. Avoid all of these for at least four hours prior to bedtime, preferably longer.

As for alcohol, many make the mistake of thinking that it helps them sleep. However, when the sedating effects of the booze wear off, it can be difficult to remain asleep. Even those who don’t wake will greet the morning poorly rested and prepared for the day.

Take Advantage Of Natural Light Cycles

Natural light can help to keep your natural bodily rhythms in sync with the planet. The morning sunlight streaming through the window alerts your brain that it is time to wake up and begin the day. Winter mornings are hard for many people because darkness can loom well into the morning hours. To make the most of how light influences your body, open the blinds when you first get up. Alternatively, use a special full spectrum light box to achieve the same effect.

Exercise At The Right Time

If you want to rest well, complete a good workout during the day, at least three hours before you hit the hay. While you are exercising, your body secretes various hormones to keep you alert while at the heightened activity levels. Because of this, you should avoid exercising in the hours prior to bed. In fact, many folks choose to exercise early in the day to take advantage of the metabolic boost.

Environment Is Everything

When your senses are being assaulted by input, it can be very difficult to fall asleep. Sound rest is dependent in part on a peaceful environment. The room should be quiet, dark, cool and free of funky odors. Keep your bedroom clean with high-quality natural cleaning products and use a white noise machine to mask sounds. If light is a problem during the summer, you can use blackout shades or a soft eye mask. As for temperature, keep it on the cooler side of comfortable.

Make And Use A Sleep Schedule

In order for your body to achieve optimal slumber, you need to have a set internal clock. You do this by creating a sleep pattern and sticking to it. Go through the same preparation schedule each night, laying your head down at the same time. Wake at a preset time and eventually, your brain will fall into the pattern, allowing you to fall asleep faster and awake refreshed.

Mattress Matters

Sleeping on an inferior mattress is detrimental to good rest. Your mattress must provide the proper amount of support and feel comfortable. Experts generally recommend that you replace mattresses every eight years, though yours might last longer if you travel frequently or have invested in a high-end mattress. If you are looking for a new one these Tempurpedic reviews look positive. Protect the mattress with a special cover to prevent dust mites and allergens from invading it. Also, make sure that your pillows are clean, comfortable and provide perfect support for your entire body.
