Fromgirltogirl at White House State Arrival of President of the Republic of Korea

Photography by Briana Booker 10/13/11 State Arrival of the Republic of Korea President at the White House

By Briana Booker

How did Fromgirltogirl get this amazing picture above?

We were invited by Mr. & Mrs.Obama to welcome His Excellency Lee Myung-Bak, President of the Republic of Korea & Mrs.Kim Yoon-Ok(his wife) to the United States. October 13,2011

It was raining & cold but I was literally 2feet away from President Obama on the South Lawn of the White House! The only separation between us are the children ahead of me!

Although my feet were killing me then (and now) & I was freezing in the rain, I got the perfect picture of President Obama. This picture turned our rainy day into a sunny day! Literally, after we left the White House in the morning, the sun came out.

We are tremendously honored we were able to attend the ceremony! See more pictures on our Facebook and Twitter!

Briana Fierce : Are Love & Basketball Inter-Linked?

Can Basketball help you find real love?
Can Basketball help you find real love?

By Briana Booker

I have never been one very talented at sports or pursued sports passionately in my life. I decided to become a writer. But I have been told it has potential to build great character and team work.

Two years ago, I lost faith that good men exist – Men that are respectful. Men that are honest. Men that are affectionate. Men that do not cheat on women that love them. I lost faith healthy relationships existed. But something made me pause – maybe I was following the wrong method of discovering a good man and what he is all about in life.

People often believe I am beautiful and smart. I have no problem finding  a good man. Often the males I have dated have been bright young men with very attractive bodies. But as my demands for a man to commit to building a strong and healthy relationship became more important than sex and public appearance, I started to feel more alone than when I was single.

I knew relationships were not supposed to work like that. I knew inconsistency and convenience was not supposed to be part of a healthy and loving relationship. I realized I was attracting the wrong characters. It takes more to being a man than selfishness and chasing ass all day.

Recently, a male friend told me , if you want to learn a man’s character, watch him play basketball, street basketball to be exact.

No, he does not have to be the most talented basketball player. It can be his first day on the court. You will see things revealed about his character, that could tell you how he will treat you in a romantic and committed relationship.

I never thought about it. I do not know  if it is true or not. But I plan on discovering, if the theory can add value to my romantic life. Can the game of basketball help me find the one? I mean, it helped Mrs. Obama find the one( more into that story later).

So I got out my phone. I typed: ‘Can I watch you play basketball?’ To a man I will not name at the moment. I have not sent the text yet…but the day that I do will come soon enough.

Are you ready for some Love & Basketball?

Fromgirltogirl to Attend White House Tweetup: Arrival of President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea

Fromgirltogirl to attend the State Visit of President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea

By Briana Booker

Fromgirltogirl is excited and honored to attend, on October 13,2011, the State Visit of President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea at the White House, in which President Obama will be hosting.

The State Visit will highlight the strong alliance, global partnership and deep economic ties between the United States of America and the Republic of Korea.

The State Visit ceremony tradition started during the Kennedy Administration. The purpose of the State Visit is to formally welcome a visiting head of state to the United States of America.

The arrival ceremony for the Republic of Korea will be the largest White House Tweetup thus far because the Republic of Korea is one of the most wired nations in the world!

But what exactly is a tweetup?

A tweetup as defined by Macmillan Dicitionary is an “organized or impromptu ‘meeting’ between people who use Twitter. A tweetup can be an ad-hoc, face-to-face encounter between two people, but more often describes a wider social gathering, promoted and organized on Twitter itself. As well as a chance to satisfy our natural curiosity –a tweetup can also be a useful opportunity to participate in what is now sometimes described as offline networking, a chance to meet people who might be useful contacts for developing your career, business interests, or even favorite hobbies and leisure pursuits.”

Fromgirltogirl looks forward to the event! We will be posting pictures and writing about our adventures!

Stay tuned!

Not on Our Campus!

By Briana Booker

Are you familiar with Elon University?  Whether yes or no, you should get familiar with two incidents involving racial slurs directed at students in the past week!

One incident, Brenna Humphries, a black student at Elon University, was walking on campus when a gray BMW convertible drove by and the driver, suspected to be a white student named JJ Minor, shouted the racial slur “Nigger” at her.  Minor said he was not the one involved in the incident but he does have a gray BMW convertible on campus. Read about the other racial slur incident here.

Watch this video to hear what Brenna Humphries recalls about the racial incident she experienced:

Brenna Humphries is racially discriminated.

Elon University President, Leo Lambert made an address on Tuesday, September 13,2011. President Lambert was pleased to see many Elon students coming together to combat against racism and discrimination on campus. Elon University has stated it encourages students to report incidents which regard discrimination, as well as take a stand against discrimination. Here is President Lambert’s address:

President Lambert addresses the Elon University community.

Since the two incidents, Elon University’s students, faculty and staff are wearing stickers that read “Not on our campus” to demonstrate racism and discrimination will not be tolerated at Elon University. Campus security is investigating the incidents.

Fromgirltogirl will keep you posted on the investigation.
