The Dangers of Smart Device Spyware

As witnesses to privacy invasion and harassment such as icloud access via law enforcement beyond-need-to-know, smart vehicle breach, and amazon devices hacking by insider threats authorized disguised cybersecurity exercise, we know how important it is to understand security applications and access of smart devices.

We want our readers to understand the dangers of smart device spyware.

Although smart devices continue to make our lives easier, 94% of Americans have at least one smart appliance/device in their home right now. Many more will be investing in smart device technology during Amazon’s Prime Day today.

The technology-driven devices are becoming more affordable than ever before, but what are Americans willing to risk when it comes to security and privacy?

A new report from Mortgage Cadence shows that despite 3 in 5 saying smart technology makes their lives easier, 73% still fear those same devices are spying on them. Anyone can become a victim.

  • Top concerns: privacy, spying, security, and targeted marketing.
  • 62% are worried about their security camera getting hacked and 23% are worried about smart locks getting hacked.
  • 1 in 5 own more than seven different smart devices for their home

The main reasons people say they invest in smart technology for their homes are safety/security and the ability to control the devices while away. Americans spend $1,172 on average on home smart devices but say they’d be willing to spend $2,475.
