Do you know July is one of the top months for home sales? Nearly 40% of 2018’s single-family home purchases were made by first-time buyers. The personal-finance website WalletHub just released its report on 2019’s Best & Worst Cities for First-Time Home Buyers as well as accompanying videos.

To determine the most favorable housing markets for first-time buyers, WalletHub took the pulse of real estate in 300 cities of varying sizes using 27 key metrics. The data set ranges from housing affordability to real-estate tax rate to property-crime rate.

Buying a First Home in Washington (1=Best; 150=Avg.):

  • 201st – Housing Affordability
  • 276th – Cost of Living
  • 243rd – Rent-to-Price Ratio
  • 162nd – Median Home-Price Appreciation
  • 89th – Foreclosure Rate
  • 231st – Property-Crime Rate
  • 195th – Total Home-Energy Cost

Washington ranks No. 271 overall and No. 57 among large cities.
