Washington D.C. is the No. 1 Most In-Shape State

new study shows the District of Columbia is in the number one best shape in the nation.

America has long been among the fattest countries, and it got worse with nearly 50% of Americans putting on weight since the pandemic. Does your bathing suit feel a little tight this summer? You are not alone.

Beach season serves as a motivating factor to get back in shape, but some states are closer to attaining that elusive six-pack of abs, and getting all the health benefits.

RunReviews.com today released a study on the States in the Best and Worst Shape using the most recent data from the CDC on obesity, diabetes, heart disease, medical checkups, and number of gyms in all 50 states and Washington D.C.

D.C.’s ranking is due to having the Number two lowest obesity rate in the nation at 24.3%, the Number 1 lowest diabetes rate at 7.5%, and the Number 1 most gyms with 20.1 per 100,000 residents.

The nation’s capital scored above the national average in every category except one — only 71.8% of residents got annual wellness checkups compared to the national average of 74.9%.

The five places in the best shape are D.C., Massachusetts, Colorado, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.  The five states in the worst shape are West Virginia, Arkansas, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Alabama.
