Martin Luther King Jr. Day Music – Shoulder to Shoulder | Wolves

New music for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of service
The LA based band, WOLVES, has a new single out entitled ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It resurrects emotional vibes from Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On,’ opting for a more triumphant sound, while leaning on the booming bass and synths with a stadium-stomping rhythm to push for equality and acceptance. Here at Fromgirltogirl, we appreciate the song theme of fighting together for equality.
As long as there are those who stand against justice and equal rights for all of humanity, we must—and will always stand—shoulder to shoulder.

‘Incredible’ -Phé | New R&B Music

Phé shows off black girl magic
Sultry. Raw. Honest. Check out contemporary R&B singer-songwriter Phé’s highly anticipated debut album CRISIS. The Vancouver born, Los Angeles based artist offers up a dose of soulful prowess, as her commanding vocals, combined with raw and honest lyrics, expose a realness that truly sets her apart from the crowd.

About Phé

Born and raised in East Vancouver, Phé fell in love with the arts at an early age, taking to the stage as a dancer, actress, and singer. Throughout high school, she attended the Sarah McLachlan School of Music where she took her first official voice lessons — exploring her voice and honing in on her skills as a performer. It wasn’t until Phé graduated from high school that she made the decision to officially pursue her career and post-secondary education in music. She attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she studied vocal performance, music business, and songwriting, developing her unique style and refining her songwriting skills.

Inspired by the strength of her childhood idols, and female powerhouses Erykah Badu, Sade, and Lauryn Hill, Phé began exploring her own artistry. Her debut EP CRISIS is the result of this musical exploration and a first look into Phé’s mind and world – as she details her experiences with falling in and out of love in the eight track EP. Touching on themes of love, heartbreak, female sexuality and sexual exploration, healing, mental health and self-empowerment, the stunning release takes an in-depth look at how Phé handled each new space she entered as she attempted to heal.

Here at Fromgirltogirl, we love that CRISIS is an honest and open exploration of self and sound at a time where a woman had to decide if she wanted to be a victim of heartbreak or use that discomfort as inspiration for growth.

Leading single ‘Incredible’ highlights Phé’s signature sound of feel-good, ambient neo-soul, featuring ethereal synthscapes, smokey vocals and seductive melodies. With a distinct coolness the songstress narrates the moment of falling in love for the very first time, despite believing that love was a fickle and fleeting thing. ‘About Us’ speaks to that moment when you can look back at a toxic relationship and see it for what it really was.

“It is my anthem of self-worth, self-realization and was my way of giving myself what I truly deserved — which was the freedom to move on and own the power of loving myself ”, confides Phé. Showcasing a sassy 90’s R&B vibe, ‘About Us’ is a declaration of self-empowerment, casting away the relationships that no longer serve us in an act of self-love.
Phé hopes that her music will allow others to feel connected and give them a mirror through which they can see and understand themselves and their experiences. The singer declares, “It’s really important for young people to be able to see themselves reflected back in the media and popular culture. It makes them feel understood and shows them that they are part of something greater than themselves. I think everyone deserves to be seen and heard”. Having received critical acclaim from outlets such as NPR and The 405, as well as her 80’s inspired ballad, ‘Feel You’ gaining over 93 thousand streams on Spotify and ‘About Us’ having been featured on Spotify’s Just Vibing playlist, Phé is ramping up for the release of CRISIS currently available worldwide.

The single focuses on overcoming anorexia, body dysmorphia and eating disorders and most of all it is an anthem for self love and acceptance.

R E L reveals, “Music can heal. I’ve chosen to make a 3-side album to address each phase of healing as its own story & as part of a bigger story. I developed anorexia at a very young age (7) & struggled with it for many years. Side A tells the story of a first stage of healing – facing the problem, realizing you’ve been hurting yourself. Self compassion is the first step towards peace.”

About REL

R E L is LA based artist Arielle Sitrick. She describes her music as EVOCA-POP – a genre the young singer-songwriter created in 2016, derived from “evocative” and “pop.” In short, REL creates music that makes you think and feel.  In 2015, she released a crowd-funded debut EP called r.e.l., which garnered notable praise from music bloggers, industry and fans.

R E L invented her own genre because she believes categories force something (and someone) into a mold. She believes no one fits a mold exactly, it can be dangerous to try or to think you are supposed to.

“I grew up in the suburbs, where we tried so hard to fit the molds. We hurt ourselves, hated ourselves, f*cked ourselves over. I did it for a long time. It hurt…and it doesn’t just exist in suburbs. We do it everywhere. Music is medicine. It’s powerful. Love heals, melody carries, lyrics speak the heart. “

New music: ‘My 404’ – Party Nails

Elana Belle Carroll photo shoot for My 404
Los Angeles artist Party Nails has a new single out co-produced by Coast Modern entitled ‘ My 404.’  The new single features punchy synth clouds, glittering melodies and vibrant soundscapes.

About Party Nails

Party Nails is the moniker of Los Angeles based musician Elana Belle Carroll. Hands down, Elana is a prolific songwriter, producer, singer and guitarist. Her new song ‘My 404’ combines pop, alternative and electronic, with a slight nod to punk. And we cannot wait for the release of her debut album ‘Past Lives and Paychecks’, a selection of heartfelt pop songs, front and center vocals and playful production with an avant-garde twist.
At the age of 11, Elana was performing original Americana, at 15 she was writing country music, and by 18 she’d moved to New York City to write and self produce her first solo project, Vernous. After initially cultivating a dark electro sound for Vernous, Carroll found herself in Los Angeles and landing sonically in a celebratory indie-pop genre.

About the song ‘My 404’ – Party Nails

‘My 404’  was originally conceived to be a part of a Coast Modern mixtape, the song’s creative vibrancy, glittering melodies and soaring synths landed it a place within Party Nails upcoming release. The single is a lo-fi masterpiece highlighting Party Nails’ stunning craft for songwriting.

About the album Past Lives and Paychecks

A common theme throughout Past Lives and Paychecks album is about past experiences and the idea that two people could have met before in a past lifetime, or might meet again in the future. The idea of past lives also refers to reoccurring themes, such as money and power, love and heartbreak, loss or death and a higher power. These are all important aspects of humanity that seem to play a role in our lives regardless of what era we are in.
“On this album, I really tried to achieve a blend of SZA and Robyn, with bittersweet writing, some dance vibes, some sad vibes and a very real and raw anti-diva singing them. I wanted to create an album of memorable songs that landed all across the spectrum of alternative pop. I wanted it to feel fresh, but not too trendy.”
Carroll also teaches music production, most notably with the non-profit Beats By Girlz, which provides free music production education and mentorship for female-identifying youth. Having been heavily involved in LGBTQ activism and feminism, Party Nails hopes to be a figure for youth who are looking for someone to relate to emotionally and physically. Past Lives and Paychecks is set for release fall 2018

Listen to My 404 – Party Nails

When listening to ‘My 404’ by Party Nails, it really gave us Gwen Stefani feels of the 90’s, which we love. It has both a party and chill feel you can rock out on a weekend or even a long drive around town or across the country.  Definitely on repeat for us. What do you think of ‘My 404?’ Is it a hit or miss for you? For us it is a hit.
