How to overcome Back To School Stress | Anxiety Prevention Guide for Families

Dr. Bradley Nelson back-to-school tips for overcoming stress and anxiety
Author and international lecturer in bio-energetic medicine and energy psychology, Dr. Bradley Nelson offers advice on how to overcome back-to-school stress.

For families across America, the back to school season can be very stressful. Some stress is associated  with the renewed pressure of academics while other forms of stress are tied with extracurricular activities and social situations. In particular children with learning disabilities have trouble overcoming back to school stress, but veteran holistic physician Dr. Bradley Nelson has great advice to help parents and children alike clear away emotional baggage to help them learn better, feel happier and reach their goals of having a successful school year experience.

Dr. Nelson specializes in helping people of all ages release “trapped emotions” – unresolved emotions from negative life experiences that can affect a person’s health, happiness and ability to learn. He and the thousands of healing practitioners he has trained worldwide frequently work with children diagnosed with Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other conditions which can hinder learning and development. Parents searching for holistic ways to help their kids overcome such problems are finding success with The Body Code, a system Dr. Nelson developed to help kids without having to resort to medication.

“Learning disabilities can affect listening and speaking, reading, writing and spelling, reasoning, concentration and mathematics,” Dr. Nelson says. “Some common imbalances children have that contribute to learning disabilities include social and emotional problems, nutritional deficiencies and toxins from processed foods and environmental sources. All of these can be discovered and addressed with The Body Code.”

Dr. Nelson teaches parents how to use these methods to help not only kids diagnosed with learning disabilities and delays, but all children struggling with any kind of anxiety over school. For instance, releasing trapped emotions can help children shift out of a fear of starting kindergarten, let go of negative feelings around upsetting past events and become relaxed, confident and better able to learn.  As a holistic physician, Dr. Nelson also provides nutritional guidance for parents on how to eliminate processed and chemical-laden foods that may contribute to children’s learning and emotional problems. How do I know when alcohol goes bad?

So now and then we like to enjoy an old bottle of alcohol. There is no harm in doing so, right? Sometimes we just bottles of alcohol that are a few years old while other times it may only be a few months old. But it’s important to know not all booze are created equal – some alcohols have tremendously long shelf lives, while others have shorter ones. Here are the bottles you can keep as long as you like:

  1. Spirits. You can stock on as much gin, vodka and whiskey as you like because unopened bottles of spirits can never go bad because they are distilled ( no contact with oxygen and they are good to drink). This is not the case for wines and beers as they include organic materials. With gin, vodka and whiskey, the exposure to oxygen will dull the flavor if you keep for too long after opening. For safe keeping, try to keep your open bottles of gin, vodka and whiskey at 55-60 degrees F to slow done the process of evaporation.
  2. Liqueurs. If you have liqueurs that include herbs, fruits, creams and spices, you can keep them for a while when not open. Bailey’s is one of our favorite liqueurs but they expire faster than spirits because of the sugar included.

And don’t ask about wine, because wine should never be wasted. If you open a good bottle of wine, you better drink it all in that sitting. Take care and be well.

Are menstrual cups the best solution for heavy periods? | My Period

#Periods…they can really be a pain literally and figuratively. I like to feel prepared for when my cycle comes so since I was a teen I categorized my underwear as fashion statement panties, sportswear and period panties. My period panties were basically the panties I thought were the least attractive and wouldn’t be as upset if any leakage happened during my sleep or other circumstance. Now I’m excited to try out #menstrual underwear. Yes these are stylish panties designed to keep you comfortable and secure during your period. They come in all types of designs and available for all ages ( per-teen, #teen and ages 12+). The panties are known as worry free period panties because they are leak proof/ #waterproof and made from high quality fiber. They fit just as good as #briefs or #boyshorts. They don’t feel like ordinary panties but I like that the #periodpanties are breathable and stylish. I got these from #Apropos www.aproposcorp.com but found them more affordable by shopping on #Amazon. I’ll tell you more about them in the weeks ahead when I get my cycle in August. Learn about the journey to better period cycles at www.fromgirltogirl.com Note there is a pocket holding a reusable pad right on the front. It has plenty of space to store #tampons, #pads, and maybe a clean menstrual cup ( with a store bag…which I have). You can put your support horizontal or vertical in the storage space. No one will notice the difference. #fg2g #girls #women #Health4Her #Hygiene #gyno #AuntFlo #menstrualcycle #menstrualcup #menstrual #ImWithHer #periodproblems #periodpain #lifestyle #lifestyleblogger

Some weeks ago I decide to give menstrual cups and other menstrual products to improve my comfort and feminine hygiene when big flow ( my period) comes once a month. I spent about $50 buying renewable pads, very fashionable period panties and my new best friend  – the menstrual cup. With my period days away, I decide to read my menstrual cup instructions and take a dry test with my pixie cup.

Let me tell you…that dry test was an adventure. I thought inserting the menstrual cup would be a breeze since I’m young and my vagina for the most part keeps itself lubricated. I rinsed the menstrual cup with warm water and used a menstrual wipe to sanitize it before inserting it into my vagina. I folded the menstrual cup with my index moving my labia around to make room.

The folding was the easiest part of the insert, it was when the menstrual cup started to expand to its original form, a circle. I didn’t expect the cup to expand so quickly to the walls of my vagina. It has a different feeling than when a tampon is present. I was trying to retreat when I felt it expand but it’s too late.

Watch the video below to see what I recommend to make it more comfortable to put the menstrual cup in and out of your vagina. You can live the average menstrual cup in you for 8-12 hours (depending on the size and the flow of your period).

If you don’t feel the cup completely open, rotate the cup gently to make sure all sides of it have expanded. I notice it is there but not by much. I don’t know how this will feel once my period begins, but I will report on it as soon as I can.  Sitting really helped me initially put the cup inside me but I had to stand to rotate and make sure all sides are open. FULL VIDEO:

Garlic Pepper Seasoned Chicken Wings Recipe | Fitness Diet

If you need a quick dinner idea, these garlic pepper season chicken wings will do the trick. I roll the seasoning to each marinated wing ( do this overnight for best results). From there you have two ways to cook them – by oven or grilling. I chose the oven ( takes a total of 45 minutes) because I didn’t have to be as attentive, but grilling takes slightly less time (approx. 20-30 minutes).

If you are going the oven route, apply a non-stick spray to a sheet pan and place the chicken wings on it. Pre-Heat the oven to 450F degrees. When you are ready to bake, you will cook the wings for 20 minutes on one side and rotate the wings to the other side, cooking more for 15 minutes. Basically you will want to cook your chicken wings until they are 165F degrees is reached by a thermometer.

If you are grilling, pre-heat your grill on med-high heat for 10 minutes then reduce to med-heat to grill the wings. Keep in mind flats will cook faster than drum and you will have to turn often, cooking approx. 20-30 minutes.

Here is a list of seasoning I used ( use according to your health and taste preferences):

  • Sugar ( or honey… 2 teaspoons of honey is all you really need) – I use honey as I try to stay away from artificial sugar. Or you can simplly buy a honey marinade to save you time.
  • Sea Salt ( don’t over do it)
  • Red Bell Pepper
  • Black Pepper (1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper)
  • Garlic
  • Chopped Onion ( pick your favorite…a traditional choice are green onions when you want a garnish)
  • Paprika
  • Your choice of oil ( I love using extra virgin olive oil or safflower oil for chicken)
  • 2 pounds of chicken wings is enough to feed a family of four ( can get great deals on quality chicken at Costco )

For best results, marinate chicken overnight. Feel free to drizzle fresh lemon over chicken once you finish baking or grilling. Hope you enjoy this finger-licking treat. Simple to make , full of flavor and a healthy eat for the entire family. Use the below hashtags to share with us your chicken wing results as well as your own wing recipes! Enjoy!

Is Colgate Optic White an affordable way to whiten teeth safe & quickly?

#DesignerSmile Colgate Optic White Challenge
Are you ready to show your #DesignerSmile?

In life, people go on many journeys. Some journeys are short and predictable while other journeys are long and full of surprises. As a 20-something, my journeys go from one extreme to the next. But this journey to a brighter and healthier smile is an exciting journey for me. I’m trying the Colgate Optic White Toothbrush & Whitening Pen. Why? I want to see if it is true that the Optic White Toothbrush and whitening pen can help whiten my teeth quickly and safely. I may not get a President Obama bright smile, but I’m so willing to find out.

To give a back story, I work in Public relations — it’s an industry where looks and level of confidence can make or break you. It is also an industry where I do a great deal of travel, especially summer travel. I know that one of the first things people notice when meeting me is my smile. Is it healthy? Are my teeth white enough? Who knows? But I know one thing to be true in life and that is this: there is always room for improvement.

When I go out and about Washington DC, across the nation, and sometimes international, I know I’m not only representing myself. I’m representing companies, communities, my family and defining to the world who I am and what I stand for as a woman. That in itself is a big responsibility because one bad decision on my part can make a company close shop, a community suffer negative consequences from poorly planned marketing strategies or make it difficult for me to put food on the table for my family.

With a polished appearance and knowledge, I can put people counting on me at ease because  keeping up with my health and self-image demonstrates how much I value myself, my community and their future. In this industry you need thick skin, plenty of confidence and a designer smile. Here are my thoughts on Colgate Optic White Toothbrush + Whitening Pen, which I received the product for free to give my honest review:

I like the Colgate Optic White Toothbrush and Built-in Whitening Pen because it is convenient and an affordable way I can whiten my teeth that doesn’t need me to schedule professional whitening at the dentist office. Moreover, I like that I can take it on-the-go and don’t have to wait or rinse to see the results. The toothbrush helps me polish my teeth and remove stains with its polishing bristles and stain removers. As for the whitening pen, I like that it is a gel that only takes seconds to apply and adhere to my teeth. You can join me on my journey to a whiter smile by checking out the hashtag #DesignerSmile and following @OpticWhite and @Fromgirltogirl on Twitter and Instagram.

How to tone it up: Adding fitness to lifestyle

Sweat and fitness with Briana Booker
     7 days a week, for a least 1 hour a day fitness.

When I was younger it was so easy to work out and stay slim and trim. I took dance at least 3 times a week and could easily do pull ups and more. But life happened, I got lazy with my routine and even suffered from depression due to loss of loved ones, economic stress and the challenges we all face from time to time in life. Honestly, life is hard and sometimes you just want a break from the stress.

But enough about that…I’m ready to get back in shape and continue my journey to feel in control of life and accept happiness as a lifestyle choice. In other words this chick is ready to go from fat to fit ( although I’m not fit…just not in the shape I’m use to being in).

I’m looking forward to the journey because it’s the first time I’m doing something because I’m inspired to do so. I’m doing this for me…not anybody else and it feels good. So what’s my strategy to lose weight?

I’m making a promise to myself to workout 7 days a week for 1 hour or more each day to increase my physical fitness and improve my health. Right now I want to focus on my core and upper body strength. Here is how I plan to do it:

  • 35-40 minutes of cycling
  • 20-40+ leg press
  • 50+ weight lifting
  • 10 minute walk

Once I feel capable of doing adequate pull ups will be my next step, but I’m determined to tone my core, lose weight, build up my upper body strength and tone up my legs. I’m going to track my results 3, 6, 9, 12 to improve my health. It’s important to me to keep my eyes on the prize for myself  and gradually make it a habit.

Leg press fitness
Using the leg press is a great way to tone up your core.

To make sure I don’t give up on my workout routine, I don’t plan to do anything extreme until I’m ready for it. I’m doing this specifically to make sure I continue working out no matter where I may be. This is my best time to get back into the shape I was in at 16 because there is no justification to put it off. I thank God for putting me in a place to get myself back into really good shape. I’m ready to find the time to get into a regular exercise routine. I’m here to do it now so I won’t regret never doing it at all.

In addition to increasing exercise, I am going to continue working on my healthy eats and beverages. This includes drinking lemon water or plain water before meals to make sure I am full ahead of meal times. This is a great way to prevent one’s self from shoveling food and adding on unnecessary calories. Portion control plays a major role into weight loss and I am here for it. I’m not here to deny myself of food, but I am here … mindful of what I put in my body. I especially think will help me because I already do plenty of home cooking to stay mindful of the food I eat. Here is to living healthier. I’ll keep you up to date on my journey.
