How to keep your Resolutions by using the Meetup App

Meetup app for New Year's Resolution.

Happy new year! It’s time to start on your New Year’s Resolutions.

Use the Meetup app to help keep your New Year’s resolutions. It’s a fantastic tool.

CEO of Meetup, David Siegel, shares why.

Statistics show that about 75% of Americans make some sort of New Year’s resolution. Whether it is to get healthier, lose weight, stop smoking, read more or pick up a new hobby, the lists go on and on for goals for the new year. What is probably the most mind boggling is that over 90% of Americans who make some sort of New Year’s resolution will not keep them until the end of the year. Most people drop their New Year’s Resolutions in the first few weeks of the new year.

One of the key factors in helping you stay on track is accountability.

Whether your goal is to be happier, healthier, more successful or fulfilled, in order to achieve those goals, it requires you to become someone who is different from who you are today, and that can be uncomfortable.

To step outside of your comfort zone, you need support and accountability. That is why outside support is so helpful. When people commit to someone on achieving a goal, the person is 65% more likely to complete it, and increase his/her/its chance of success by up to 95% when they have scheduled a specific accountability appointment with another person such as a Meetup event. (Source: The American Society of Training and Development) .

Start the New Year out with others who share your resolution to help keep you on track and set you up for success. Meetup connects you with a community that shares your goals or interests to meet in a group setting. There is a Meetup event for just about any interest, in any city, for anyone at any age. Studies show that the simple act of trying something new releases oxytocin in the brain and makes you feel good.

Many Meetup members and Meetup event organizers educate communities on how Meetup helped them feel less lonely, and a study out of UPenn supports that. According to a study by ImpactED at UPenn, 72% of people who use Meetup report increased friendships, and 80% say the feel more connected to others (Source: ImpactED study, University of Pennsylvania).

Popular Meetup Categories include everything from Fitness, Weight Loss, Hiking, Financial Health, Running, Book Clubs, Music, Comedy, Career/Business, Knitting, Socializing and more.

Don’t see what you are looking for? You can even start your own Meetup group! So why not consider Meetup as a solution for achieving New Year’s goals, and as a means to help people find more human connections–when they need it most.

[Report ] Over 3 in 5 Americans are Learning Languages on the Phone

Man browsing his mobile apps on his smartphone to find his learning languages app.

Playing games on your phone or on a tablet is not an unique phenomenon. People download mobile apps and games to give them something to do while they wait in line or to distract them during a long car ride.

Almost all (93%) Americans regularly play games on their phones, tablets or computers. According to a new study, many Americans are putting that screen time to good use through educational games and apps. In fact, ( 96%) say certain games help keep minds sharp and can help exercise your brain! The number one skill people strengthen through games is their memory. This is followed by critical thinking skills, language skills, time management skills and vocabulary skills.

When it comes to a foreign language, 63% of Americans say they are trying to learn a new language or strengthen their foreign language skills.

Duolingo is the most popular app for languages, and some of the most popular languages people are learning Spanish, French, and Japanese. Check out the full report for more data on the educational games and apps Americans are using, including which games are recommended by parents for children.

How to use Substack & grow subscribers

What is Substack?

Substack, the email newsletter platform, features a simple interface to publish and help writers monetize posts on the web. The platform is now a go-to for journalists, editors or advertisement sales to get messages across.

Whether paywalled or published for free, you can grow your substack audience by participating in discussion threads to have conversations with subscribers.

Some great features Substack creators should consider are:

Substack for Podcasts, which allows audio creators to publish and grow their podcasts.

Substack is now beta testing a video player to help creators grow their audience.

Who are Substack Creators?

  • Traditional writers ( Primary Creators)
  • Media figures
  • Journalists
  • Thought leaders
  • Musical Artists

How to start a Substack and be successful

It’s incredibly easy to sign up and start posting on Substack. Follow these steps, and you’ll be publishing in minutes.

Define your niche

Decide who is your audience and know their desires, concerns, viewing habits, and what they are willing to buy.

Sign up for a Substack account

You can use an email or sign up with your Twitter account. Substack’s Twitter integration makes it easy to link your contacts and feature your newsletter and bio. This works well for Substack creators who have a large Twitter following.

Create your publication on Substack

  1. Name your publication
  2. Write a summary and be sure to include what it is about and confirm your URL. The more creative and short the summary, the easier it will be to draw in subscribers. Get viewers excited about reading your content.

Import your mailing list

I decided to import some of Fromgirltogirl.com’s subscribers. I did it by uploading a CSV file to import contacts but Mailchimp, TinyLetter, or Patreon can make importing your mailing list easier. Just make sure your subscribers consent.

How to add subscribers to Substack

You manually add family, friends, and business associates to your subscriber list as a way to build a subscriber base. Don’t worry about the long haul way you will continue to grow subscribers, just get started.

I recommend signing up with a second personal email address to see your newsletter exactly as it looks to your substack subscribers.

Create a post on Substack

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be directed to the Dashboard, where you can create a New post, New thread or New episode. The interface is straightforward: Write, format, and publish.

How to grow your Substack

Substack is a tool rather than a social network. Use marketing and promotional tools to grow your substack subscribers and monetize.

Here is how Fromgirltogirl.com can help you grow your substack subscribers and monetize.

Call to action

With 14+ years in drafting call-to-action copywriting , Briana Booker, Chief Editor of Fromgirltogirl.com, can help you fill in your posts with headers, footers, and buttons to make it easy for readers and viewers to subscribe to your newsletter, share your content, and comment on your posts.

Use social media

Always post your newsletters on social media. Break down your content via Twitter threads and screen shot key takeaways for Instagram or set up direct integration with Facebook.

Add Comments

Substack thrives on discussion. So make comments on related posts link back to your own Substack.

Build partnerships

Guest post on other people’s Substacks, interview other creators on your own, ask relevant accounts on social media to share your publication and make people pay for a sponsorship.

Substack did their own case study, following Ali Abouelatta and his blog First 1000 , where he describes how he gained over 20,000 subscribers within three years. Ali Abouelatta achieved this growth by engaging with his niche outside of the platform and marketing through Quora, Discord, WhatsApp and Slack.

Is Substack free?

As a publisher, Substack is free to create an account, and publish text or audio without paying for storage. Moreover, the majority of Substack posts are free to read.

It’s up to content creators whether or not to place their work behind a paywall. We recommend Substack creators offer a mixture of free and premium paid content to subscribers.

A subscription to a paid Substack averages around $5 a month but really popular substack pages have seen subscribers willing to pay up to $50.

How to make money on Substack

Make money on Substack by selling subscriptions to your content. Substack readers are willing to pay for good content. Sell more subscriptions in the following ways:

  • Be Consistent. You want to convert your readers and viewers to loyal fans. The best way to do that is to publish regularly and be reliable. Publish free post on every designated day ( end of the week) and a paid post on another designated ( start of the week).
  • Be Interesting. If you need a Substack editor, connect with Fromgirltogirl.com by emailing advertise@fromgirltogirl.com. Briana Booker will copy edit your work so substack subscribers can enjoy your content.
  • Stay Free. Creating free content is the best way to build your subscriber base. Do not paywall any more than 50% of your content.

Is Substack worth it?

To market your substack use  TikTok , Pinterest, and engage thought leadership, and stick to a content writing schedule or creation calendar. People become loyal subscribers by reading and viewing useful content or interesting information.

Post your Substack on your homepage, social media sites, company email signatures and anywhere you can display URLs or weblinks. This will help your substack search engine rankings so people can come across your Substack organically.

Become a sponsor of Going Places 2022, or donate to support the critical work of Higher Achievement. In America, the greatest decline in reading and math scores in more than 30 years has happened within the last two years of the pandemic.

Help Higher Achievement’s scholars on their journey towards success in high school and beyond by attending Going Places 2022, on November 2 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, or by making your commitment of sponsorship by October 14.

Higher Achievement’s evidence-based program model prepares scholars academically and socially for high school, college, and careers. During their formative years at Higher Achievement, scholars:

  • Explore their interests
  • Define and pursue their goals for the future
  • Sharpen their communication skills
  • With the help of mentors, staff, and peers.

Higher Achievement scholars have futures as educators, entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, and lawyers. No matter their path, scholars leave Higher Achievement well-prepared for placement in college preparatory high schools that will enable them to pursue their ambitions. This fall, Higher Achievement alumni are attending excellent schools throughout the metropolitan area, including School Without Walls, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Benjamin Banneker Academic High School, and Alexandria City High School.

82% want remote or hybrid work options

Woman working remote

Are you working or seeking a remote or hybrid job? 82% of workers now want remote or hybrid work options but some companies are still demanding employees come back to the office.

Corporate powerhouses like Morgan Stanley and Apple want their employees back in the office, despite the overwhelming data that shows people like remote or hybrid work as a permanent fixture in the corporate world.

In a recent study of 1,000 people across the US and Canada conducted by Jonathan Shroyer, CX Innovation Officer at Arise, found that 82% of people want hybrid or remote options and 61% of people wish they worked remotely while 21.8% of people surveyed said they want a hybrid option. 5% of those surveyed currently work in remote or hybrid roles.

Companies and employers who fail to understand what the majority of people want may see an increase in churn, poor acquisition rates and will see long-term, great employees leave for better, more forward-thinking companies.

“The future of work is increasingly digitized one. People can and have worked well remotely since the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated the need for it. Now, people see the value in remote or hybrid work in a post-pandemic world. Smart companies will see and hear what their team wants and will accommodate them. The people are showing that they want remote and hybrid work, companies that will remain successful will listen to them,” explains business executive and Arise CX Innovation Officer Jonathan Shroyer.

Women Owned Moving Companies|Community Resources

Moving is a significant milestone for people. This article features moving resources for women, including tips for investment in women-owned businesses.

Do you know Women-owned businesses represent 42% of all businesses, employ 9.4 million workers, and generate revenue of $1.9 trillion?

In 2018, females earned 81.6 cents for every dollar a male earned,” according to the Latino Economic Development Center , women entrepreneurship made that possible. But we still have a long way to go to meet wage equality for same job responsibilities and qualifications.

“That makes it critical for company leaders to continue the push toward paying employees equally for similar work,” says Jessica Stender, senior counsel for workplace justice and public policy at Equal Rights Advocates, a nonprofit civil rights group, as reported by the Society for Human Resource Management.

The guide below highlights the top 10 women-owned moving companies and infographics on the importance of supporting women-owned businesses:
