[Study] Half of Americans Say Their Dream Home is “Unattainable”

Florida dream home.
Home ownership across generations by the numbers
While the real estate market seems to be cooling a bit, skyrocketing mortgage rates are driving affordability to the lowest level since the 1980s. Americans are taking notice and realizing their dream home may never be in the cards. I wanted to make sure you saw the report I sent last week on American’s dream homes.

More than 1,000 Americans across each generation were surveyed. The study found 90% believe owning a home is part of the American dream but 51% say it isn’t attainable.

Still, renters are hopeful they will get into a home soon. The report includes generational insights on what people are looking for in their ideal home and how many wish to own a vacation home.

If you close your eyes and picture your dream home, does it look similar to where you’re currently living?

For the overwhelming majority, that dream home is just a dream.

IPX1031 surveyed more than 1,000 Americans across each generation about their dream homes. 94% said they are not currently living in their dream home, with the top reason being they cannot afford it.

What would those dream homes look like? Where are the dream homes located? How much would the dream homes cost?

The study found…
 – Modern was the top architecture and interior design style
– 57% prefer new construction over renovating a home
– 35% want four beds
– 38% want 3 baths

The most desired dream home features…
1. A view
2. Big backyard
3. A Large family room
4. Front porch

The top luxury amenities people are looking for are land and privacy (59%), a hobby room (48%), and a home theater (42%).

51% said their dream home is out of reach, with half of millennials estimating their dream home would cost between $500,000 to over a million dollars.

Take a look at the full report, which also includes generational insights on what people are looking for in their ideal home, how many renters plan to become homeowners in the next five years, and which generation wants to own a vacation home.

As we approach the holiday season, self-care is very important. Despite feeling burned out, almost 1 in 3 (31%) say they engage in more self-care activities during the holiday season. Check out this study on American self-care habits.

Self-care is becoming increasingly important in our everyday lives, and as we approach the winter season, self-care becomes even more vital.

What does self-care look like?

It can mean different things for different people, but what are some of the most popular self-care activities?

According to a new study from Within Health, the most common self-care activity across the United States is journaling. Other popular forms of self-care include exercise, yoga, taking a bath, and sleep.

Good news: 3 in 5 Americans feel like they have enough money and time to prioritize the self-care they need. On average, Americans are spending 6 hours each week engaging in self-care activities and spend about $90 monthly.

Over half (52%) of Americans say they feel more burned out during the holiday season, and 50% add that it can be hard to make self-care a priority during the holidays.

“As the holidays approach, give yourself the gift of self-care,” says Katie Piel, Primary Therapist with Within Health.

“Mindfulness is one quick way to give your mind and body a break during the whirlwind of the holidays and it doesn’t have to add extra time in your day. Engaging in mindfulness as self-care is an easy and free way to increase your peace and decrease your stress.”

40% of men dream about having sex with a friend

Woman posing with lingerie

Sex dreams are fairly common amongst Americans, allowing them to live out their wildest fantasies in their head while sleeping. As the clocks go back at 2:00am on the 6th of November, giving people an extra hour in bed, provides more opportunities to play out scenarios that are unlikely to happen in real life.

Survey reveals 77% of Americans dream about sex, with the most common dreams involving orgasms and sex with friends

According to a new Lovehoney.com , a sexual wellness brand, survey … 77% of Americans are having sex in their dreams, with common topics ranging from sex with friends, co-workers, and teachers.

The full piece can be found here, including all the juicy details about which cities have the most naughty dreams and which star signs are getting up to no good in their sleep.

Whether it’s getting hot and heavy with a stranger or enjoying sex with a long-time friend, sex dreams are seemingly a common phenomenon for a lot of Americans. Whilst most people know that they like when having sex, erotic dreams are an opportunity to act out our wildest fantasies in secret – meaning they often play into our guilty pleasures. For some, sex dreams are a way to be their truest self, until the alarm interrupts!

With so many different types of people on the planet, each with their own likes and dislikes, it’s safe to assume that the things they dream about in private differ dramatically.

Lovehoney.com surveyed over 2,000 Americans over the age of 18 to find out what they’re really up to when they’re dreaming.

The survey discovered that over three-quarters (77%) of Americans have dreamt about sex at least once, and that, whilst it is slightly more common for men to have sex dreams (85%), the gap is fairly small and women also often dream about sex (75%).

Most Americans have sex dreams 2-3 times per week

The survey found that those who had previously experienced a sex dream tend to have them 2-3 times a week (12%).

These dreams seem to be more prevalent in certain age groups. The majority of respondents dreaming about sex 2-3 times a week were aged between 25-34 (14%) but only 4% of those aged over 55 were dreaming about sex multiple times per week. Instead, the majority in this age group experienced sex dreams once a month (12%).

Las Vegas & San Diego are the cities with the most sex dreams

When it comes to dreaming about sex, it seems that certain cities are more likely to have residents experiencing frisky dreams compared to others.

The survey found that Las Vegas and San Diego are the two US cities with the highest frequency of sex dreams, with residents in these cities having dreams about sex around 10 times per month on average. In close second, Charleston residents had sex dreams 9 times per month.

In contrast, Wichita was the city with the least amount of steamy dreams, with residents in this city only dreaming about sex twice a month on average. Similarly, residents living in Oklahoma City, Seattle, and Milwaukee are also less likely to dream about sex, with residents in these cities averaging at around 2 sex dreams per month.

The top 5 cities for sex dreams

  1. Las Vegas (10 dreams per month)
  2. San Diego (10 dreams per month)
  3. Charleston (9 dreams per month)
  4. Austin (8 dreams per month)
  5. Salt Lake City (8 dreams per month)

40% of men dream about having sex with a friend

When it comes to the subject of these steamy dreams, this differs a lot between people. Dreaming about intense orgasms (37%), experienced by 43% of women and 29% of men.

Sensual nighttime fantasies, with other common dream topics including having sex with a friend (35%) – which was significantly more common in men (40%) than women (32%). In similar veins, sleeping with an ex partner was also common (34%), alongside sex with a complete stranger (32%).

Dreams about taboo topics seem to be more common in men than women, with 24% of men dreaming about sleeping with a work colleague, compared to just 10% of women. Men were also twice as likely to dream about having sex with a subordinate at work (14%), compared to just 7% of women.

Sexual fantasies, commonly explored in pornography, are also common in dreams, with 18% of men dreaming about having sex with a teacher, whilst only 7% of women experienced these dreams. Shockingly, 9% of men and 2% of women had even experienced sexual dreams about their students.

Cancerians, Leos & Scorpios are most likely to have sex dreams

Whilst star signs / astrological signs aren’t for everyone, certain astrology signs are more predisposed to sex dreams.

The difference between sex-dream frequency by star sign was relatively small, however, there were certainly some signs that experienced kinky dreams more than others.

The star signs most likely to have sexual dreams are Cancer (82%), Leo (80%), Scorpio (79%), and Aries (79%).

In contrast, the sign least-likely to dream about sex is Saggitarius (70%).

Top 5 star signs dreaming about sex

  1. Cancer (82%)
  2. Leo (80%)
  3. Scorpio (79%)
  4. Aries (79%)
  5. Gemini (78%)

Dr Justin Lehmiller, a social psychologist and research fellow at The Kinsey Institute also commented on why people may fantasize about certain topics in the bedroom and explains why sex dreams are completely normal and nothing to be ashamed of; “Normalizing diversity in sexual fantasies allows us to set our minds at ease, to feel more confident exploring and communicating about our sexuality, and to experience more pleasure.”
