The importance of self investment

I took some advice from a mentor. What was that advice? The advice was to invest in ones self to succeed. No one will ever just give you the tools to succeed. You have to work hard and go get it. If there’s not a doorway, you’ll have to build the door.

I took the advice to purchase a much needed laptop. It’s the first laptop I’ve every bought on my own and that in itself is empowering for me. My father ( God bless him) purchased my first laptop to get me through college. And that’s what that laptop did, it got me through college and slowly went onto its death bed but God always makes a way when I’m down and out. Although I’ll have to pay for my laptop on my own, I’m sure I will appreciate it more because I’ll have to truly work for it.

Actress Tika Sumpter inspired me to work hard when I heard her story of working 3 or more jobs just to get by. Then her blessing came out of hardship, she landed her first acting gig and now she’s the leading actress of The Haves & Haves Nots. You can’t tell me God can’t do the impossible because God makes the impossible possible everyday.

By investing in myself, I’ll enhance my productivity by 50% or more. I’m not very familiar with this kind of laptop but I’m excited to learn and create memories with my laptop.

The benefits of My Fitness Pal

New Year, new beginnings . I have set a goal to lose 20 pounds by summer time. I am just ready to be a happier and healthier me this year.

I don’t want to lose weight in a way that I’m skinny looking and weak. I want to get toned while remaining healthy.

So I consulted with my doctor and she highly recommended the mobile app My Fitness Pal ( it’s a free app) . The fitness app allows you to keep track of your daily calories and add in the amount of physical activities you have performed during the day. I can add beverages as well and scan barcodes of foods and beverages I consume for utmost accuracy.

It’s awesome!

So what did I have for dinner tonight?

Alfredo Chicken! It’s only 240 calories.

Fitness session: Kick Boxing

So every week I try a new fitness workout to keep me motivated and engaged in my physical well being. This Wednesday I had a kick boxing workout! Loved it! 30 minutes was too short because I was having so much fun while feeling the burn. Did some jabs, crossing, squats , jumping jacks, running, and breathing exercises .

My arms and abs felt great after the workout. I highly recommend kick boxing.

Desserts: Baby carrots in chocolate cinnamon sauce

We are starting healthy desserts in addition to healthy meals. Here is our first try at fitness desserts.

This dessert features boiled baby carrots tossed in chocolate cinnamon sauce.

The chocolate cinnamon sauce includes cinnamon, a little honey, berries and chocolate. I simmered the sauce and drizzled it on our baby carrots.

It was a hit. Or at least my brother told me he would like the sauce on his pancakes.

Pan fried salmon

What’s for dinner tonight?

I made pan fried salmon and served it with seafood pasta and cinnamon sauce baby carrots.

I used no salt for the pan fried salmon. I only used roasted garlic and chipotle pepper.

To make this dish, you only in 1 cup of vegetable oil , 1 egg, 1/4 cup of milk and flour.

In a separate bowl,beat the egg and stir in the milk .

Soak the fish in egg/milk mixture. Next, coat the fish with flour and add your favorite seasoning to your fish.

Get your pan put the pill in it. Set your stove top to medium heat. Cook the fish 3 minutes per side. The time cooked per side extends based on the thickness of your fish.

Strawberry Banana Breezy

Sticking to our fitness drink a day plan, this is our strawberry banana breezy ( come on you knew I would start naming drinks after my self).

This recipe includes :

– 1 banana
– frozen strawberries
– A little mango rum
– fresh ginger
– some dark chocolate
– a cup of white grape juice
– 2 -3 ice cubes for an extra chill
